Bergen - Norway

Hello Lads,

Anyone been to Bergen recently? Off there in June and wondered if anyone had any recommendations?

Got the 2 kids with me (3 and 6) so will be limited a little but hoping to keep outdoors as much as possible and take in the Fjords.

Is it as pricey as I've read?

Cheers

Norway is expensive to visit in general. Bergen a little less expensive than Oslo.

Cable car up Mount Ulriken 👍

It's more expensive than here. Son's lass comes over with an extra suitcase and takes food and clothing back home with her.

Not recently, 20 years ago. It was pricey as hell. We were in 'push the boat out' mode, as we were on honeymoon but still ended up eating in cheap restaurants and the like.

Not sure there's much for young kids....fish markets, museums, art galleries and fjord trips.

Go up the Fløibanen for the views of Bergen, even if it's raining you can stay dry under the trees at the top. Visit the aquarium. Buy beer at a supermarket or Vinmonopol and get pissed before going out for the night, it's what the noggies do. Don't ever ever ever eat at a restaurant, you'll be bankrupt. If you have time visit Steinsdalsfossen (waterfall) and Folgefonna (glacier) if it hasn't melted yet. I think there is a jetfoil tour, the bairns would love that. Eat some brown cheese.

It’s a gorgeous place but not much to do if I recall. I also went there when fjordline did the route from shields, which incidentally may come back in 3 years (with a different operator)

Went in 2020 just before covid. Lovely place, very expensive and was freezing cold! We stopped in different airbnbs so moved about into other nearby cities. There is a war museum by the coloured houses which I’d recommend if you’re into that. The tour guide loved us for being English and gave us tea and biscuits.

It’s an expensive place but you’ve just got to accept that. No point just trying to do it cheap and sacrifice certain things. If you want to buy tinnies for the night in your accommodation buy them early as they stop serving in shops after a certain time.
