Just got back from the game and I can confirm that apart from the assist, he was terrible, most fans groaning and and wanting him taken off before half time, I really think he does not offer us much, rather play Ji or Connar up front at least then they will play with passion, he needs twelvety touches for anything!

As a midfielder, he is fine! But he is a striker, well apparently. Even our defenders spend more time in the box.

I just think he isn't the traditional centre forward type that some want him to be. Play him alongside or off a forward like that and I think it would suit his game a lot more. I hope he can adapt to play the role he's being asked to play, and if he can't under M'On then I'm not sure he can.

His first touch and close control has been gash so far. Cost him several good chances already and he slows our counter attacks down trying to control the ball. He doesn't address the ball well when shooting, can't dribble, poor heading technique. Passing has been nowt special either. He has to be better than he's shown for us surely.

I know his touch isn't consistant but some of his first touches are the best i've ever seen at Sunderland, must be watching a different player. Agree with the shooting as for slowing down our attacks, he generally has to with him being the lone striker.

There's a great players in there, Martin O'Neill might be the person to unlock that potential.

At the end of the day, I want the lad to succeed, but I think we should send him back and let him do it else where. We could do better than that surely.

Lazy?

According to the stats he ran over 8km tonight.

I'm calling bullshit on that one.
There's no way he ran 8K

Although that said, he seemed to be back defending - or his version of it - when I would have expected him to be further up the pitch awaiting a clearance for him to run onto.

Unfortunately if a clearance did come to him he'd wait for the ball to come to him rather than go to it.

Despite great work with the assists, if he was any more laid back they'ed have to carry him off the pitch on a stretcher.
A bit more effort and he could have slotted a couple himself.

Tell us about it then Randle, having enjoyed your posts over the years I respect your opinion.

I've seen him score belters for Arsenal and Denmark. Hasn't done it for us yet but you don't just lose it at his age. For us he has shown great feet, touches and vision. You can see his thinking is a bit ahead of a lot of our other players. He struggles playing as a target man but that isn't his game and he needs to learn we aren't Arsenal and he needs to get in the box more himself - seems to be doing that more since Martin's arrival as well.

The kid is erratic and needs constant management in my humble. There is a load of talent in him for me though.

Unreal, isn't it?

In and out of the game perhaps but up against three centre backs on his own, with a team that was defending so deep there was rarely a team mate within 30 yards of him and had a hand in three goals.

Get those fists pumping and eyes bulging Nik, it's the only thing they'll accept.

The crowd has made up its mind, nothing will change it.

It's a genuine possibility.

At my age I wont argue against that.

Make your case man. Right here and now what does he have in his locker? Would you sign him on current performances and if so how much would you pay? Would you offer the reported £9M for his services?

If he actually bust a gut & ran towards the box when we break other than every other fkin direction the fans would give him more credit , strange for a forward he rarely wants to get into the box.

love the shite this place comes out with to try to prove a point

"lazy as fuck" (covered over 8km and iirc was 9th overall in distance covered)

"cant afford his 80 odd garnd a week" (its 52k)

:lol::roll:

yes he has faults, his main one is he doesnt like gettin in the box much, but stop makin up shite.

You sound almost apologetic Randle, no need mate. Stick with it a little longer here. If he isn't a target man what is he? He's clearly not a poacher so who do you play next to him?

He looks better than Ji and he's done more than Wickham has since he's been here (yes Wickham is young and it's early doors but that's the way it is). We don't have any other options, therefore we either support the lad or turn on him and knack his confidence. Which would you prefer?

He hasn't done a great deal wrong. He isn't prolific but he's for the most part playing up front, by himself as a target man. He brings the ball down well and invites other players into the attacking play.

He's a good player and better than what we have on the books at the moment. We could only send him back if we brought in two more strikers imo.

Explain what you see in him then.

No booing here by the way, I want him to succeed. He just hasn't impressed me so far despite me being over the moon when we signed him.

I'v been very disappouinted so far too. He wasn't great at all today and missed a few straghtfoward passes, but he was far from shite just as we were not "murdered" in the first half.

People were being hysterical on the match thread. If anyone thinks Ji would have been any better than I'll have some of what they're smoking.

Aye, let's send him back when we're already short of strikers.

It's January??? Buy one that can score! Wages best used else where. I have a question for you, did you defend the lad when he screwed up two chances against Everton? I would say he cost us two points that day, but what do I know.

Another one who will go on to prove the doubters wrong as has Catts, Ming, O'shea etc etc.
Playing a role he is not suited to in a system which often leaves him marked by at least three players when on the ball.
I remember fans saying how shit Wellbeck was last year, not many saying that now.

He's woeful, by far the worst player again. He did well for the assist but his overall performances are terrible - for someone whos supposed to be CL quality anyway.

Name three realistic strikers we could sign in Jan.

Big deal he's screwed up a few chances, it happens ffs. He scored a very good goal at QPR and was unlucky not to score another when his header hit the post.

Get off the lad's back ffs.
