Bendtner on a permanent

I don't think we'll sign him because he's bound to be on fairly big wages, certainly near the top end of our current structure (which I believe has been fairly strict since Keane left?) but he's the best striker we can expect given our current stature, IMO.

The people who think he'd be a bad signing, who are you expecting? Llorente? The only way we'd get someone better would be a gamble a la Gyan / Cisse at Newcastle, big cash for a relatively obscure but gifted foreign player who might or might not adapt to the English game.

Anyone comparing him to Kewyne Jones is clueless to be honest, it's like the difference between a donor kebab and fillet steak.
that is my worry as well

Ha ha, f***ing hell. A one goal in four or five striker best we can expect? That's Bruce talk is that.

This is it mate, if we're forced to replace him with someone like Doyle or Odemwingie we'll look a worse team I think. On the bright side, I feel like O'Neill is more of a 'system' manager than a 'player' manager, if that makes sense, so whoever we replace him with will fit the system and hopefully we'll continue to look more than the sum of our parts.

Got any realistic suggestions pal? There's no teams of our stature in the Prem with a striker who scores consistently and also contributes to the team in the way Bendtner does (which is an important part of the system O'Neill sets us up in, as mentioned above).

Inconsistent was my point

I know what you mean, but Bendtner's inconsistency is on a much higher level than Kenwyne's. At least when he's playing badly he can control the ball and has some impact on the game.

Be realistic then and suggest alternatives we could get instead?

I don't have a scouting network. However, I refuse to believe Bendtner is the best we can get this summer.

I would genuinely be pleased if we went for Grant Holt, controversially. He's a big unit! I do think Wickham is bound to look better after a full pre-season under O'Neill and hopefully getting his fitness up to a proper level. Just because so many football people seem to rate him, and have seen more of him than me, there's surely a player in there somewhere.
