Ben Compton

The Rat

Striker
Interesting case, late starter and when you read how he’s done it’s unusual nobody has given him a chance

Think he scored 5 100s for Kent 2nds in 2019 and was the highest scorer in the 2nds at Notts when he was there

He also played for Durham 2nds at one point I believe

Makes a wider point of how doors can close quite quickly if you don’t get in the academy system and make the contacts

Hard to believe he hasn’t got contacts!

Yeah you'd imagine once your out the academy system thats it in terms of a professional cricket career. Good to see the start he's had hope he keeps it up
Well he has his cousin Nick Compton, who isnt the most popular cricketer

I do think it shows that if you miss out on the academy pathway its harder to break in
Compton came across as too honest I thought, seemed a decent enough bloke and deserved better with his england career

Hmm not sure, makes the odd good point, but I think he believes he is clever than he is and makes some statements for the sake of controversy

It was interesting hearing him be so criticial of the current batsman techniques, he might not be wrong, but its worth replaying footage of his period after his recall, when his own technqiue was bad to the point of being comical.

Stood so still with no trigger movements or anything at all till the ball was released, he was just a sitting wicket at the end

Did well in NZ in first spell and also did wlel in India when we won over there but an average of 28 but its him in the similar position of most openers, and he he played over half in a much much better team than the current one

He's in terrific form.

Scored a match winning 81 at Durban, Bayliss comes out and criticises his strike rate and how he prefers top order batsmen scoring runs, then gets himself out trying to emulate Kevin Pietersen in his remaining matches.

Should have been allowed to play his natural game, but - as with Sibley - people get on their case about strike rate.

Compo junior is an even slower scorer than his cousin, so I expect he'd get the same treatment if picked for England.

Nah that was the one knock he did

His technique was absolutely ridiculous in his 2nd spell bowlers soon worked him out

He literally stood still up until the ball was out of the bowlers hand, it was mental

Agree about sibley though
