Bell to open with Moeen

Why?

Bell is a quality player, with a good average and strike rate in ODIs in Australia and NZ over the last few years

I wouldn't mind seeing Hales in there, but Bell has to play for me.

I agree on most apart from Luke Wright, who has had too many chances

I'd be happy with Hales in the team for sure, but Bell has to play for me, we know he can play these international bowlers, OK he doesn't get the massive scores but he is still a class act and will score runs in Oz.

Its one of Taylor or Hales, not both

Saying that I want Ballance in there, but that depends on whether they will bowl Bopara, if they won't, then he is not one of the best ODI batsmen in England, he simply isn't
Wright has had too many chances but bell hasn't? Aye, right! Hope bell does play well but I can't see it happening, been poor in his recent one day games.

How on earth can you compare wright to bell , he isn't fit enough to clean his boots, Haway mate be serious

Good selection.

Bell, for all his apparent failures, has a decent record opening in domestic one day cricket. If he can bat for 30 overs, we would be on our way to a decent score.

Going gung-ho could leave us 30/3 after 4 overs and people would sharp moan then!

Belongs here too

I am happy enough with Bell in there with Ali. I agree with those who point out that its 50 overs, not T20, and whilst you need to be more dynamic and aggressive than Cook was, there is no need to go gung ho. Bell is a good fit IMO in that he will enjoy the quicker decks over there, whilst also having the ability to get at the slower bowlers where Cook struggles so much.

I agree. My point was that bell has played 150 odi's and not nailed down a place. He gets a start, looks great then slows down, gets bogged down and gets out. How many more times is he going to get recalled and do the same thing again. When do we move on and try something else? He has 3 100s so why do people think he's the person to build the innings around or give us a better chance of batting 50 overs when he's consistently proved incapable of doing that?

I know what you mean but a good 50 each at a good strike rate by Ali and Bell and we would be well on our way to a good score.

I do see your point, I just think we have been so mis-managed in terms of ODIs in the past, not one of them seemed to know their role. Opening with Cook was tough for Bell as the pressure was on him to keep the board moving quickly. I think with Ali/Hales, he will hopefully be able to play his natural attacking game without feeling the need to go all out.

It will but I cant see many 100 partnerships.

I think it's optimistic to think that. He's an experienced pro who's had chances in a variety roles and not nailed it.

I hope he proves me wrong and brings the cup home for us, he's definitely got the class his problems are in his head.

Scores 187 from 145 overnight

70s from Modern Ali and Taylor

Canny

Brilliant news, Bell in form will be a massive boost.

See how it goes, as I say if Bopara is not bowling, I would be tempted to get Ballance or Hales in there.

Obviously I've never claimed to be an expert

Hope he can keep it up

Great knock but hardly a bowling line up to scare you. Even chris rogers had a bowl.

Also Jordan went for over 8 an over against the part timers the other day. Gone for over 11 today.

Cricket forum karma strikes again.

Cracking knock.

PS bowling a massive cause for concern like - Jordan has been awful!

Great death bowling by Broad. Mopped up the last three wickets in two overs.

Got to worry for the future though - unless Finn can regain his early form, there is a distinct lack of class in our young bowlers.

Has it? Have England won the world cup and Tri series thanks to bell's heroics?

Oh wait he was playing a in glorified club cricket match batting against arguably only one international class bowler(cummins is 21 has looked canny when I've seen him)

Most of their team haven't even played first class cricket yet.(or very little)
