Begovic on Fletch GIF

The more I watch it the more its obvious fletcher took his action to avoid a serious injury. As the ref did not give a foul Sunderland should be pressing for it to be seen as violent conduct. A foot that high connecting with an advancing players head would result in a serious injury

The more I watch it the more I see the keeper making a good challenge, trying to avoid Fletcher whilst Fletcher realises he's getting there second and pulls out. It's a physical game, Begovic looks in control and isn't using unnecessary force. There's nothing malicious or gratuitous about it . As a forward you'd expect a keeper to come out like that and as a forward you need to decide whether you can get there first and how brave you'll be.

what on earth are you on about? his studs were up at head height against an oncoming player

Watch it just one more time for me. This time imagine Fletch doesn't protect himself and puts in a full challenge. In doing so his face or neck would impact on Begovics foot, studs up with a locked out knee. Is that what you call being in control? It would certainly be classed as a physical game then though so you're partially correct

Of course it would "what the fuck is the useless Italian prick not using his hands for? De Fanti out!".
He probably fears if he went his hands his momentum would take him outside the box and be done for hand ball. He also probably thinks he can get to the ball quicker with his foot.

Tell you what, stop any kind of 50/50 challenge; the first one to bottle it gets the free kick. Winning a challenge isn't meant to be easy. I've had my ankle broken in 2 places because neither player pulled out, didn't make it a foul but we both believed we'd get there first; I did and got hurt. You can't take the risk or bravery out of the game or it stops being a game.

I don't actually think Fletcher would have been seriously hurt; if at all. The body is a tough old thing.

50 50s are part of the game but not chest high, studs up 50 50s...............lets say cattermole does that on tiote in the next derby

Ooh you were so brave
Doesn't stop you from being thick as mince though

Got the Begovic decision wrong, got the Brown decision hilariously wrong to the point where it might be up there with Josip Simunic's third yellow card in wacky football lore, ignored Fletcher controlling the ball with his hand to set up his early chance.

We honestly should have tried to send eleven men out there for the second half and see if the crew even noticed.
