Beer Prices

Surely there's going to be a point where they have to stop as even the middle class will just stop going out and spending money thus killing all profit the pubs might be making.

I was in a Wetherspoons in London just before xmas, they had a few ales from a small local brewery on the menu, £2.50 a pint.
I think you are mixing up greed with survival.
If wether spoons can do it, breweries deffo can . It seems, along with numerous other prices, companies are chancing their arm and taking the oiss

Wetherspoons will be making pennies, if that, on ales being sold for £2.50 a pint. It's won't be a sustainable model for any other business.

Give owa man. The breweries own most these boozers
I but a keg of Peroni for about 220 notes.inx Vat. That's 88 pints.
Boozer Sell it around a fiver a pint. They'll be getting it a lot cheaper than me aswell. There's still plenty of money for boozers I reckon . Perhaps if rheyfoxused on Volume by keeping prices reasonable they may actually do better. Just a thought.

Thing is that extra £20+ you’d pay if you’re paying a couple of pound extra per pint and say have 10 pints over a session, could’ve been your taxi fare home, so it still makes a difference imo. Not enough to make me want to stop in I admit, I’m more likely to just suck it up and absorb the extra cost like I’ve always done, but it’s a bit of a pisser and might mean you go out a bit less often or choose to stay more local when you do rather than venture further afield into one of the towns.

Aye but I think that’s the point I’m making, if the £20 makes that much of a difference that someone can’t afford or enjoy their night in the way they want, then maybe they need to rethink, rather than moan about prices where they think they should be drinking.

We’ve been in situations when the kids were young and we had very little disposable income which essentially meant an early evening Italian spesh and a couple in spoons was a treat….but it wasn’t any brewery or pub owners fault, just our circumstances.

Agreed. But if it wasn't for those supping several nights a week / having sessions then there'd be a lot less pubs for us to frequent in the first place.

And I really appreciate that….and like to think I’ve more than done my bit once our situation eased.

Use it or lose it is very apparent at the minute, hence why a few quid here and there shouldn’t be something we bemoan, to keep the doors open.

Surely that just proves my point? 88 pints at £2.50 a go only just recovers the keg cost. That's not a viable business model and it's why barely anywhere is selling pints that cheaply anymore, even in working class areas. You'd need to be absolutely burning through kegs to stand any chance of making it work.

I've no doubt Heineken, Diagio etc are profiteering here, but not many pubs will be.

Sorry marra but @Dave Herbal has been very clear regarding taxi related discussion being forbidden on his thread
