Be careful what you wish for

The players and manager have talked all season about the connection with the fans, it's even become a meme in Regis' interviews. If you think that booing them for one bad 25 minute performance won't have an effect on them (and not a positive one) you're crazy.
There’s a connection because the fans see 100% effort, usually intelligent coaching, a “‘til the end” mentality.

But that was missing on Friday.

It's a two-way relationship though. All of them lads have been loyal to us and grafted their nuts off every game this season.

One bump in the road and it's boos and f***ing off at half time.

I agree but one usually feeds from the other I.e. Sunderland fans tend to react to a big challenge to win the ball, intensity, a feeling of being hard done by from officials.

There was something not quite right. A behind the scenes disagreement, an incident from training or whatever.

It was shocking and shite.

Every team has one awful blip in their season.

Bloke in front of me when we were confronting blokes booing summed it up

“Fuck me man we’ve had many far worse days and some of them very recently, we’re currently the 12th best team in the country ffs”
Well summed up

  • 10 years absence from the EPL
  • Stuck in L1 for years
  • Reached the lowest point performance wise in our history as a club
  • We were no longer financially solvent as a club

- Now back in the Premier League
- Safe
- Performed above any of the promoted teams
- Beat our rivals twice
- Financially well run
- Excellent business in the market and being touted as the model for other promoted clubs
- Could reach our highest position for 20+ years

Bad result and performance but perspective needed

Its been a fanatastic performance by us this season to be where we are. Last year when we finished 4th we were nearer to 17th place in points than we were to the top two. Nobody gave us a prayer. We were there to make up the numbers and the only issue really was whether we could be vaguely competitive. Could we be as good as Ipswich the season before maybe? We spent good money but that in itself did no more than give us a glimmer. The squads of Burnley and Leeds had far stronger starting positions having been in the premier league the season before their promotion and still spending 100mill on top of that.

We decided on a system of play and we bought players perfect for that system of play. Defensive, attritional, low block, minimise space, limit chances to the opposition. But its never good enough for some. The quality of the football is 'shite' we need to play more progressive football and even the managers position being questioned by some. We have seen in the last 2 games why we don't play more progressive football with our current players - they aren't good enough and weren't bought with it in mind. Next season i dont want us making significant changes to what we have done this season. Evolution not revolution. Buying players to imporve the quality but keep broadly the same system and we can improve even more.
I loved our defensive style teams hated us

anyone who has been supporting the lads for any time knows this season is a fkng dream.

there has been so much shit served up in the past it's untrue. hopefully it was a blip, if not kld will sort it imo.

RLB deserves a fair crack of the whip, including when it goes wrong.

That game on Friday took it out of me all weekend because of the heavy defeat that it was. Games don't usually do that to me for two and a half days anymore.

However, if you look at 6th down, there is still almost nothing in it. Teams like Everton, Fulham, Brentford, Brighton and Chelsea aren't steaming ahead of us. This season has been as tight as you can get. Our season isn't over and I'm not just talking about Europe. Out of 34 Premier League games we've lost 12. In our first season up. It is perfectly normal to feel pissed off after 0-5 at home and I am too, but we really do have to try and move passed it quickly and stick with the lads. If we give them our full support they have a better chance of moving up and recovering from the humiliation. If we become defeatist, it'll resonate with the players and our season really will be over.

Rlb has every right to now try new ideas involving what he thinks will be part of our progression. Learning not only players strengths but also weakness is a learning curve and they've earned the right to have the opportunity given our excellent season..will know where we need to address incoming players and who can be trusted to deliver comfortably if a necessary change is needed due to circumstances. The result isnt the only outcome its what we gather when this type of result occurs..weve proven each time this season bar the 3 game loss streak that they've a steel about them. The majority are new to the toughest league possibly in the world so a bit of slack should be given. This will have hurt the players pride as well as the fans its how we all react at Wolves that will give a bigger picture to how their mindset can be under pressure..keep the faith thos club has earned it this season

You're talking 24 hours after the event.

After our worst home defeat in how-ever-many years you're going to get a knee-jerk reaction no matter who you are (esp on Social media).

Calm heads should have returned by the time we play Chelsea. Those still fixated on the minutiae are the ones to avoid.

People will be over it by the time the next game comes and everyone will look back on the season as a veery good one. People being annoyed when we're getting beat 4-0 at half time after the performance we'd put in is totally normal imo.

I still maintain that its partly down to the utter shite weve had to put up with for as long as i can remember. Call it a form of "ptsd" if you like. (For want of a better description!)

A solid 10 years of relative success eg a mix of mid table no relegation battles maybe top 10 finishes will train it out of us for the most part.

Also take into account were probably addicted to the drama of fighting relegation/promotion for most of the last 30 years.

Our fans just get triggered when were watching a team that self implodes/lacks effort and thats exactly what happened Friday. PL ticket prices dont help either.

End of the day i put our home fans in the top 3 in the country and away fans joint 1st with the mags and the players would do well to remember this. They can go and play for Fulham if they dont want passionate fans.

Even now and if it meant being stuffed 5v0 last Friday, I suspect Forest would still happily swap places to be certain of staying up

I’ve seen some doghsit over the years and I’ve been comfortable calling out that shite relentlessly (including the current chairmen when I didn’t think he had the best intentions) but fuck me, booing them after one shocking performance at home this season was nothing short of disgraceful. I don’t align myself to any of you fuckers who did that. Wankers.
Jonny come latelys

It's almost the inverse of the "accepting mediocrity" argument we used to get in the L1/Champ days. That was daft, and so is the idea that people shouldn't voice their frustrations at any time because we were in League 1 once.

They're PL players, getting paid paid PL wages and put in a first half performance that was way below standard. A bit of stick at HT is expected and I think fair enough.

I'd say anyone who stayed till full time to boo is a bit pathetic like.
