The Song That Made Britain Rock.

Billy Bragg on the song that kickstarted the British teenager and Rock 'n' Roll as we know it.

4 part series with next week Woody Guthrie in the spotlight.

BBC4 at its absolute best:cool:

1 A New England.
2 The Saturday Boy.
3 Sexuality.
4 Levi’s Stubbs’s Tears.
5 Greetings For The New Brunette (or whatever it’s called).
I love the lyrics to the Saturday Boy, perfectly captures what it was like to be 15, well for me anyway.

Billy Bragg and Joe Henry released an album of recordings made in railway stations a couple of years ago, Rock Island Line is the first track, It's a pretty good album if you like american folk and Joe Henry has a great voice

I nivver made the first team
I just made the first team laugh
She nivver came to the phone
She was always in the bath.

How anyone can’t admire that is beyond me.

He’s written some cracking non-political songs. Brewing Up is a really good album. The Myth of Trust is another cracking song off the album
