Not sure if you could liken Hendo to any of the current England midfielders. He's certainly a long way off Gerrard and a different player anyway, Gerrard is an attacking midfielder. I would say that Henderson is good at almost everything but brilliant at nothing. Good passing, good engine, good touch, good vision. If he improves his tackling, becomes a bit more brave in the air, and gets more selfish with the ball when going forward then he will be a top player. I think one area that might let him down a tad is that he isnt the quickest, no slouch either mind, but we saw a few occasions last night where he struggled to track runners becasue they outdid him for pace.

On a side note, how many chances does Walcott get for England? Another truly woeful performance from him last night, totally frustrating, one dimensional player. Adam Johnson was a much bigger threat when he came on, gave Abidal something to think about. Walcott's only threat is his pace, and players like Abidal are clever enough to deal with it. Look at how Onuoah dealt with Bale for example, difference is that Bale can actually cross a ball as well, so at least there's a plan 'B', Walcott cant.

In all fairness, apart from Walcott, Henderson is probably no slower than any of the other starting midfield. The difference was, Henderson was often outnumbered in the middle so he couldn't get close to players before they even started running, and other times he was trying to track Malouda who is pretty quick tbh.

Looked much improved in a 4-4-2 though.

Also, how shite is Milner these days? His move to City hasn't really done much for him it appears.

I agree about Walcott. if he comes up against a slow left back he can destroy them, but in the premiership and at international level most teams have players with pace. As soon as he comes up against a quick defender he has had it

England need a player to anchor the midfield, Barry is now too slow to play international football. Having asked Henderson to play that role, the worst thing he could have done was to desert the task he was deployed to fulfil.

He probably followed Capello's instructions to the letter, it was an experiment, If Capello wished to know 'Does Henderson have the discipline to fulfil this role' then the answer was yes. Henderson looked much better when Gerrard dropped deeper and was making the play from deep which Barry showed no signs of doing.

My only concern is that Hargreaves has a big injury problem in which case Man Utd will be very keen on Jordan who's a similar kind of player.

I thought Hargreaves was a holding midfielder

Poster above is correct Henderson needs to play the Gerrard role in midfield, supporting the attack as a whole not just the striker, which is Gerrard's role some of the time.

He was, but thats how Capello wants him to play so he has to adapt.
Impressed Capello by doing what was asked of him.
