Sunderland manager Steve Bruce says midfielder Jordan Henderson looked "restricted" on his England debut.

He might be right. What we need is for Jordan to knuckle down and progress as we believe he can.
We might just see the best of him yet.

Spot on like. Gave him a position in which he looked like he clearly had no clue how to play fully (especially against a very very good French team with a point to prove). With that kind of responsibility you could see he didn't want to abandon his role incase they scored and he got the hassle for it. When he did venture forward a bit he looked canny and had 1 or 2 decent passes creating things.

"We're all clamouring for the youngsters to be given a chance, now all of a sudden we're up against it. It's a no-win situation."

Says it all about modern day fans like. No matter what happens they find something to whinge about.

He's a replacement for Gerrard. Crapello won't drop the scouse bully so Jordan has a long wait. Unless he moves to Man Utd then he will jump up the pecking order.

Either Capello or his advisors need to take a chance and drop the big timers, Spain a few years ago, Germany last year all good examples of if it is broken f***ing fix it

My only concern is that Hargreaves has a big injury problem in which case Man Utd will be very keen on Jordan who's a similar kind of player.

Exactly, we'd be world champions at this! :-(

Are you sure?

Not sure if you could liken Hendo to any of the current England midfielders. He's certainly a long way off Gerrard and a different player anyway, Gerrard is an attacking midfielder. I would say that Henderson is good at almost everything but brilliant at nothing. Good passing, good engine, good touch, good vision. If he improves his tackling, becomes a bit more brave in the air, and gets more selfish with the ball when going forward then he will be a top player. I think one area that might let him down a tad is that he isnt the quickest, no slouch either mind, but we saw a few occasions last night where he struggled to track runners becasue they outdid him for pace.

On a side note, how many chances does Walcott get for England? Another truly woeful performance from him last night, totally frustrating, one dimensional player. Adam Johnson was a much bigger threat when he came on, gave Abidal something to think about. Walcott's only threat is his pace, and players like Abidal are clever enough to deal with it. Look at how Onuoah dealt with Bale for example, difference is that Bale can actually cross a ball as well, so at least there's a plan 'B', Walcott cant.

I like what he says in that last paragraph. He seems similar to Ferguson in the way he complements young players, but not tells them the sun shines out their arse. Fergie has an excellent record at bringing through young players, so a very good example to follow.

It's not his position anyway. He's not a tackler so I don't know why he is expected to lpay that role. Looked a lot better once Gerrard went off and he was allowed to venture forward.

The only thing that was restricted was his ability. He's nowhere near an international class player (irrespective of whether he may or may not be in the future) and I can only assume that Mad Cow Disease has reached Lancaster Gate.

On a side note, what the fuck is Pearce there for?

Surely he would have told Capello that he isn't a defensive midfielder?!?!

And how comes Capello doesn't know this from watching him, ahhh had on....

Henderson has done a good job for the U21s playing more defensive with Wilshere pushing further up. Obviously against lesser oposistion, more space and freedom to move around.

So i can sort of see why they thought he'd be ok playing that role.

It was bizarre last night, England played two holding midfielders and one of them, Henderson, is never a holding midfielder on his debut, which made it hard enough but at least he wasn't giving the ball away and the other one was Gareth Barry who is useless and shouldn't be anywhere near the squad any more.

If Capello wants to play that 4231 formation, then we need a real ballwinner in that two in central midfield. One of Cattermole, Muamba or Reo-Coker, they are not the best midfielders around but someone has to get stuck into the opposition and do the dirty work.
