Bastille Day

Strange why the french make such a big deal - it was such an understated event. There were hardly any prisoners in the bastille when it was raided.

I suppose it was the symbolism.
In France, 14 July is simply known as the Fête nationale, with no mention to the Bastille in the name. Of course it does commemorate the taking of the Bastille, but the holiday tends not to focus on that.
