Alan Pardew at West Ham:
"In the 2006–07 season Pardew was criticised after seeing West Ham through their worst run of defeats in over 70 years"

Alan Pardew at Charlton:
"hundreds of supporters remained for more than an hour to condemn their manager, chanting, "We want Pardew out"

Alan Pardew at Southampton:
"Pardew was dismissed by the club amidst reports of low staff morale and conflicts between Pardew and club chairman, Nicola Cortese"

Newcastle next...

aye :lol::lol:

if im guessing £3m, the papers must be guessing £1m.

I've linked to three different articles specifically about the transfer, from the time that say £1m. You're clinging to a passing comment in an otherwise unrelated article and trying to claim it as gospel. £3m makes no sense at all if you think about it for just a couple seconds (maybe minutes, or hours, in your case).

i've linked you to 2 that says it was £3m, and can find more if need be. but i'm not trawling the internet for aticles of a shite centre half. Type in mike williamson 3m and you'll see loads.

He never played for Pompey. They were desperate to get rid. Something to do with their deal with Watford being appearance related.
And your lot were desperate to sign him - hence getting him on an emergency loan ...

By the way, wiki says that a citation is still needed for this claim that Pompey would have had to pay Watford more if he so much as stepped on the pitch. So if you have a source for that claim, I'm sure wiki would be grateful to receive it.

Oh, and as Watford did have a sell-on clause, are you suggesting that they were - effectively - robbed by Pompey selling him on to your lot on the cheap?

Emergency loan was something to do with a transfer embargo at Pompey IIRC, we had a match the day it was lifted so sorted out the loan (emergency loans require much less paperwork) and then completed the full transfer within a week. As for the Pompey having to pay more, there's no solid proof but it's not often you see Championship clubs paying £2m for a centre half before refusing to play him is it? As for the sell-on clause, I don't know what you're getting at? It's entirely at Pompey's discretion how much they sell their players for.

So how much did the emergency loan cost your lot?

And are you trying to claim that Pompey had a transfer [out] embargo on 27 January but that they didn't have a transfer [out] embargo on 28 January?

So far as I know, their transfer embargo was only for players coming in, not ones going out ... and it was partially lifted on 26 January anyway to allow loanees and frees. So would you care to back up your claim that the emergency loan was due to Pompey's difficulties and not due to your desperate need for him?

Is that the same trophy as the 'Sherpa Vans Trophy'?

I still can't get over the fact we've only finished above the mags 3 times in the last 30 odd years.. No wonder they're so upset with this run of 'domination'

"These delusions of grandeur are perfectly illustrated by chairman Freddie Shepherd's claim that the Newcastle job is 'one of the biggest in world football'. Shepherd's sentiments were echoed by former Magpies' striker Micky Quinn who said that
'Newcastle is a bigger job than England'."

It never stops being funny does it?

To be fair, we have had a few world stars as manager in recent years......
