Barnsley v Sheffield Wednesday Kick off 2000 Sky Sports Football • Sky Sports Main Event • Sky Sports Main Event Ultra HDR

Worth mentioning it looks interesting at the bottom of League One as well. Looks like four from six with MK Dons the only ones to have any kind of form. Oxford teetering dangerously. Tbf, most likely two from four as FGR look fucked and Cambridge six pts adrift with a worse GD.

Oxford's next 6 games look very tough. Wouldn't be surprised if they're in the bottom 4 after that.

Another thing is how refreshing this post game analysis has been. They’ve discussed the game, spoke to the managers, looked at how tight the top of the league is and how has games in hand etc.

None of the Super Sunday pretending to be outraged at Man Utd losing and pantomime arguments.

Only caught the last 25 minutes, said to our lass, that's the kind of football fans want to see each and every week.
Proper football, no cheating, time wasting or general shithousery.
Two teams playing football. Maybe not the best in the world but, proper football.
I would love to be able to watch games like that every week.

Be very careful what you wish for.

I can only give you one like unfortunately 👍

Fun knockabout game. Not digging at Sheff Wed here but they’re very route one for a side top 2 of the division. Works for them clearly.

Michael Duff is doing a great job there at Barnsley, and he did the same at Cheltenham. One to watch IMO.

Only seems yesterday when he was playing for Cheltenham against us.

Both sides were physical, direct and powerful.

We wouldn’t stand a chance against those sides with our Hobbit recruitment policy.

They're actually only 18th out of the 24 teams for how direct they are.

4th best in the division for passes per sequence of play.

I was a bit surprised by that when I seen it but I'd imagine it was a tactic to best avoid getting done by Barnsley's high press as it was killing them early doors.

What a game!!

Still got buzzing ringing in my ears!!

Fair play to Barnsley.
@Visiting owl

I just wondered what your opinion is on Michael Smith.

Imho, I was very surprised Wednesday signed him from Rotherham, as he's hardly prolific, and seems more suited to playing for a more uncompromising, physical team at League One level, but no higher than that.

Is he seen as fans favourite, and can you see him being a part of the Wednesday set up in the Championship, or do you and others see him as just a very limited, very physical big lump, necessary, only to help get you out of League One ?

I never really put him as a physical centre forward type at Swindon. Scored more goals with his feet than with his head.
Since he left us, went backwards for a little while then since Rotherham gone upwards again, however playing more of an out and out 9.

Our fans were mixed about him.
I once had chat with him and he was open about his control and when tense his control was poor. When relaxed much better. He is quite a laid back lad, real likeable. Pleased that he has found his form again and looking good for Wednesday.

Hiya.

First off, Smith has not scored as many goals as expected but his workrate is fantastic and gives everything.

Upon signing him fans were definitely excited thinking it's what we required and to be fair, it's working out quite well, but do I think he would be a success in the championship, I would have my doubts.

I think he is a good League one striker and scored more for Rotherham because they played to his strengths more than we do, or have done for a large part of the season. If we do manage to get promotion, Smith will have played an integral part and will no doubt get the credit I personally think he deserves.

Gives his all and is always available.

Cheers mate.
I appreciate your comments.

I remember he certainly looked like he relished the physical side of Rotherham's game.
He put himself about and was a right handful in the same mould as Jayden Stockley, in that he's a good target man, but very limited in what he can do.

I think he was far better suited to Rotherham's style of play, and I can also understand why he's so effective at League One level, but in all honesty, I think he'd probably struggle to make an impact at a higher level.

We had Charlie Wyke at SAFC, who had one dream season with us, but was very limited in what he could do, and though it seemed to many outsiders to be madness on our part to let him go, after he'd just scored 30 goals in a season, it was the right thing to do, because it gave a younger, more mobile, and a more intelligent footballer, Ross Stewart, the chance to shine, and injuries apart, he's proved to be a far better all round footballer and a much better team player, than Wyke.

I'm sure you'll go up as Champions, as you have a lot of quality in your squad, and even if you a bit of a blip, you'll still have enough to get up this season.

Best wishes, & see you next season. 👍
