Am I alone in thinking that the best LB on the field last night was playing for Everton

Baines gave us a real demonstration of a modern day full back and its a real pity that Keane did not manage to get him to sign for us

He's canny good at crossing. He did get skinned, in slow motion, by Bolo though.

He had a very good game last night and had been playing well in general but he will never be the answer to our left back problems. He really needs to work on crossing the ball with his left foot or at least stop curling the ball so much with his right.

It's a massive positive that we have reasonable competition at left back though. Definitely a useful squad player, if he will be happy with that.

Spot on....and his right-footed "crosses of hope" are bloody awful. If Welbeck plays on the left with Gyan and Bent up top he might be better as he won't need to overlap.

We have two good squad players who can cover LB, Bardsley is good defensively and Richardson offensively. This is illustrated by the fact that Bardsley is now a shoe in for LB due to his recent defensive performances and Richardson is getting regular games in midfield due to his offensive contribution.

I am not suggesting either are not good enough for the squad it is just neither are a LB.

Just as well really as we have no money

 ;)

Nope, you're not alone marra. That game illustrated both how well Bardsley is doing and why it is still not really good enough.

Never been a big fan of Bardsley but fair play to him he's playing very well.

Massively improved.

I don't like to say I told you so but ...

Always thought he got a rough deal from some, there have been worse fullbacks than him that have been given legendary status from our support, kay and makin spring to mind.

Am sure noone would disagree, but that's not what we're talking about?

Phil Bardsley = The new Danny Collins

Limited footballer who gives his all and thats about it,he will be winning Player of the Year awards next.

Left back position is one that needs addressing before any other.

How is he limited?

Gives his all and I was praising him at the start of the season when others were being extremely harsh but he will always be trying to compensate for not being left footed at left back. Leighton Baines is everything that Sunderland should be aspiring for at left back, the quality of the balls from him was plain to see. I think we made it a bit easy for him to move up the pitch though.

Glad that Bardsley is getting well deserved appreciation.

Still a great player having took all the stick. His mentality is something you just can't buy either. That's not limited.

His attitude has always been top class, can't fault him for that.

As someone playing out of position he's doing very well but as much as I like him if we want to improve he's a bit of a weak link, as the postie above said we need someone there with the abilty to deliver class balls.

How the fuck does it demonstrate that? Baines was quality last night but that does not mean that what Bardo is doing is not enough for us.

At the start of the season I didn't want to see him anywhere near our starting 11 but he's completely changed I'm willing to admit I was wrong about him, I wish other could admit this too. Last night he showed that the belief that he offers nothing going forward is a load of shite

but you also think Bent should be dropped, your opinion is worth less than nothing

He doesn't get the popular vote because he didn't cost 9m, however another solid performance. He has been a revelation this season.

Aye, a player who is a natural right back as come into his own at left back, bruce can change things round when things are not working out, but if we are more attacking down the flanks i can see richardson going in at left back....

But Bardsley has proved me and most wrong on here, hope this continues !
