Bardsley

when some people get a new contract they get back in the comfort zone.
I think Bardsley is the opposite. Just been getting better since he signed the new one.

More than a squad player imho

Unlucky with the goal, but at least he made an effort to block it.

Anton on the other hand is a f***ing liability. Makes Bramble look like Beckenbauer

Bardsley is Mr Consistent.

But unfortunately, he's not got that bit extra that is often needed from a side like ours. If we had a player like say Mikael Arteta in the midfield then the lack of attacking options from the full backs would be less of a problem.

And despite the fact that he has been consistent at left back, the simple fact remains that we lack balance as a result. It causes us a problem as a team, even if he is generally defending quite well.

neutrals were laughing at Bardsley in the pub at the start of the game. Bad reputation which he probably deserved to build up, but I have to say as a club we are having the last laugh as he has been like a signing this season (er a good signing that is..) If PDS is so far down the pecking order then we should shift him with Anton in January. Another versatile CB or LB has to be our No. 1 priority.

I think Bardsley is the epitome of Sunderland. When we came up we had to battle hard and it wasn't pretty, every point we had to fight for. Bardsley was a big part of that and his game suited.

Now, we are playing better football, getting forward and attacking teams more and generally posing more of a threat. Phil is adapting his game to become a full back that fits in with the style of "New Sunderland".

We've left a lot of players behind since coming back up and establishing ourselves, think Collins, Nosworthy and others. I am delighted we've stuck with Phil and he is repaying the faith by really improving his game this season.

IMO, of course.

No man ... it's Bramble who makes Bramble look like Beckenbauer! he was missed last night.

Agree with earlier poster who said that Bardsley was only behind Welbeck for MoM. The only other one close last night IMO ...

He didn't deserve the deflection ... cruel.

He doesn't get the popular vote because he didn't cost 9m, however another solid performance. He has been a revelation this season.

Got nothing to do with anything. I think you will find, if you bothered to actually read peoples posts, that he has been getting plaudits by plenty on here.

Deserves to be in the team and is playing out of his skin. Even when he was apparently "shit" he was still being defended by those who had a bit of a clue.

I was amongst his biggest critics, but he's been superb this season. Thoroghly deserves his place in the team.

By extension, I find the logic that Bardsley's presence at LB proves we need to sign a new LB bizarre. IMO we have two perfectly good LBs in the squad now, as well as a youngster coming through. People seem to be forgetting that Richardson was doing very well at LB before his injury - now he has had a couple of mediocre games in a position we already knew he was mediocre in, he is back to being 'shite' and 'not a LB', apparently. In reality, the only reason he's not back in the team in that position is not because he did anything wrong while playing there, but simply because Bardsley has been undroppable since coming into the team.

Agree entirely. Both fullbacks are doing a decent job, keeping the opposition out, which has to be their first duty, and contributing going forwards.

Midfield on the other hand is still shaky and too easily turned when things aren't going our way, if we were to buy anyone then a midfielder would bring a far bigger improvement over a more attack minded LB or what have you, as they only really come into their own when your midfield can control a game in the first place.

I don't think he has ever let us down but there has always been a bit of negativity to him from the SMB - we could bring back McCarthorse!

His attitude is, and always has been, top class. Its his ability that has been in question, he has been very good this season. Comfortably the best we've seen of him.

Spot on.

His game is improving massively and he looks eager to impress every match.

Also love the way he just gets on with everything even after a player has given him a reet f***ing whack.

I bet he is a right handfull in a fight. Been taking up boxing hasn't he?

bring back that shining light in safc colours aka chimbonda, oh how badly we are doing without his amazing runs and solid defending

bardsley is just a clogger remember

well done mcbard:cool:

Aye mate, unreal some of them comments like, excelling at Blackburn tho i see. ;)

he knows that. this is just a thinly veiled swipe at gordon from our resident bitter fuckwit

He had a very good game last night and had been playing well in general but he will never be the answer to our left back problems. He really needs to work on crossing the ball with his left foot or at least stop curling the ball so much with his right.

It's a massive positive that we have reasonable competition at left back though. Definitely a useful squad player, if he will be happy with that.

Interesting read this thread, I think our no.1 priority in January should be bringing a quality winger in.

Bardsley has been worthy of all of the praise he has recieved this season, particularly when I thought he would have been gone in the last transfer window.

Like Anton he is an important part of the squad.

I've always been a Bardsley fan and the stick he came in for dismayed me so it's brilliant to see him getting a deserved run and doing well. Love his attitude and although I was dead against him playing left back as I thought he was poor when Keane tried it, he has been terrific there lately and was the only one to come out the derby with credit for me.

He's patently working on using his left foot and a couple of times last night when he cut back and crossed with his right were reminiscent of Magic. Could be a valuable weapon if worked on.
