Bardsley was injured in training

Fair comment. I'm not entirely disagreeing with you here by the way. Only on time span.

I know....;)

Either way,we now have the right man at the helm and long term exciting times..

I've seen subtle little changes in the playing style in 2 weeks which gives me great hope...Espec in midfield, short, sharp passing and in Vaughn..Was his best game by far..

Here we go again. The personal abuse is rolled out rather than debating the actual issue. Saying someone is incapable of defending properly is a natural conclusion to witnessing an accumulation of glaring errors, so yes, it is exactly the same thing. I am just a little further down the path with it than you are.

I don't rate your little hero. There is no conspiracy. No obsession. No conceit. Actually, there is some conceit. I am a conceited person, so fuck, it doesn't change anything. Point is, there is nothing sinister going on here to allow you to happily dismiss an opinion you don't like as lacking objectivity. I simply don't rate Phil Bardsley, and for some reason that bothers you.

Of course he wasn't being marked by Brown because there was no man marking involved. It was zonal, and Bardsley's responsibility to deal with it.

Accept I havent remotely criticised you for commenting on errors Bardsley has made -. In fact I agree with you on them, like you he certainly wouldnt be in the starting line up for me and like you I would sell and look to improve.

However unlike you I wouldnt have the arrogance to claim that an international and premiership full back doesnt know the first thing about defending. Its a ridiculous thing to claim.

dont know if mentioned on this post but if it were up to bardsley we would have drawn the blackburn game, why? watch the highlights, at the time I was screamin at the ****. We get a free kick, clearly a yard and a half towards the right of the left corner of the box, so what does bardsley do, move the ball to the side of the box looking at the cross, fookin idiot. It can be seen on MOTD 2 O,neill as i was screaming at him to put it in the correct 'shooting' position. He has a football brain that consists of hoof it, he is shit and did himself no favours with his 'they expect to win the league' bollocks. If he never plays form us again a wouldnt bat an eye lid. And for those who keep coming up with player of the season, one word, Nosworthy. As for Colback, a dont mind him.

bardsley gets let off with alot of stuff at the match. If he fucks up not much is made of it but if cattermole or colback give it away its "awww f***ing hell man, f***ing shite"

he's a big boy on £30k + a week, acting hard isn't good enough. Decent squad player but nothing more.

I'm not a huge fan of Bardsley, but the ridiculous criticism and abuse that he gets on here is shameful. That's the way of the internet though. Yes, he makes some mistakes, but he also does things well; and yes, he has limitations. This is why he's not playing for Barcelona.

Bardsley is playing in a defence that has been pretty solid this season and hasn't conceded many goals. He must be doing something okay as we have a geriatric passenger at RB and CBs who gift the opposition a gilt edged scoring opportunity every game. On top of that, we have a midfield that can't tackle properly and has no pace. Get a bit of perspective, Bardsley is a decent player in a decent defensive unit playing for a (hopefully) average Premiership team.

Having read through PF, I'm amazed at what a fantastic job Steve Bruce has done in getting us any points, bearing in mind the number of players who aren't even Championship quality that we have, the profligacy / ineptitude of our forward line and the impotence of the non-tackling midfield in attack. Bruce back in!

Great post - by all means have a debate on whether or not Bardsley or any other player is good enough but players playing at this level arent 'shite' and all defenders playing at this level have at least some idea about defending. People get blind spots about certain players and see only the things they want to see - the great covering saving tackle is forgotton in an instant yet the poor bit of marking is stored for life and ready to be regurgitated in the next messageboard argument.

As is often the case, objectivity has been largely lost and people's extreme views are being outed. The truth is no doubt somewhere in between the polar opposites largely on show.

Phil Bardsley does give '110%' and is a decent, honest pro, which should not be overlooked, especially as you can't say the same about everybody. What he is not is anything more than that. He won PotY last year because he had to adapt to a position which we were struggling in, not because he was our best player. That and some people still adopt the 'as long as he gives his all, heart on the sleeve' etc approach that will see us go nowhere fast.

He's a full back who can be relied upon to do an adequate job, but ideally for me he'd be on the bench. He'd be there or thereabouts for most teams outside the top six or seven. I'm rather intrigued as to why the OP thought he was our best player last season, and if he's basing it solely on the PotY award then he needs to open his eyes.

Some fair points there.

Rentaghost: whilst many do have blind spots and Fishpaste may (or may not) be guilty of that in Bardsley's case, I do think you're taking his point about not having the first idea how to defend a little too literally. If you were to pick up on every of those types of comment on here you'd never get away.

IMO he's a decent lower half premier league defender - he's certainly not shite!

However if we kick on under MON he'll be one of the first to be replaced I think

Anything, absolutely anything but under rated.

I pretty much agree with what Nemo said above. He`ll never be the greatest footballer but mid level teams like us do not generally get full backs any better than Phil Bardsley. Reality check needed for a few on here me thinks

I like him dexter, heart on sleeve type, gets stuck in etc etc. Think him and richardson link up well on the left. There are other priorities that need looking at and sorting out before we remove the likes of bardsley from the starting 11

I reckon he costs us more goals per season than any other player on the books. Canny tackler but positionally and concentration and maarking wise he's not good.

I thought you were joking in all honesty.

And I don't agree that him and Richardson link up well on the left. Richardson and Sessegnon link up well, but not Bardo and Richardson.
