Bardsley was injured in training

like i said on another one of these threads full of attention seekers (fishpaste) theres never any middle ground, we're not losing due to defensive errors, our defense has been top half standard, we're losing because we have no threat up front, buy a goalscorer then we do well. no point attacking players, its pathetic.

Well it wasn't that was against Blackburn. It pretty much always is on corners or free kicks close to our box, but on free kicks like that one where we are effectively defending our 18 yard line from a deep punt, it is zonal marking to maintain the line. It has to be.

It wasn't really a deep punt. We man mark, end of. We may hold a line at our 18 yard box, kind of playing offside and so the attackers can't get in on top of the keeper but we're still marking up. Well in the clip Wes Brown isn't but that's my point

Maybe someone should tell John O'Shea we're not man marking on the clip, he's literally touch tight with his man

Bardsley is a very poor defender. People seem to love him because he tries hard, crunches into tackles and can strike a ball well.

A decent sub, no more.

His man is in his zone, that's why. Wes Brown was never picking up Samba. He was in his usual position, central defence, and Samba trotted out to the left of our defence. We are zonal marking, defending our 18-yard line - 'end of'.

If not, how convenient it is that those Blackburn players who are being man-marked by our defenders just so happen to be strung perfectly across our 18 yard line allowing our entire defence to maintain their usual positions. What a happy coincidence!

So our right back's 'zone' is near the penalty spot?

There was a clear narrow for of 4 from O'Shea to Bardsley with Bramble and Brown in the middle strung across our 18 yard line when the free kick is taken. If you can't see that and figure the rest out, we really haven't got anywhere left to go with this.

It was zonal marking, as it should be from that deep. Completely different scenario to defending a corner.

I'm not his biggest fan but why get rid? Continuity and attitude are important to a side and he's been not a bit of bother. Not the most gifted player in the squad by any means but he has time on his side and he's certainly progressed in his time here. He's what, 24? He'll be a half decent premiership player by the time his golden years come around.

If we did ship him out we'd get pennies for him so why bother. I know people will come out with the "deadwood" crap but every side worth a spit carries a few players as back up and every now and then their time in the sun arrives. We're not Barcelona and we probably need a few more like the the Salford Slayer in our ranks. The lad has the heart of a Lion and despite justified misgivings over his technical and positional ability I'd keep him. He can cover both sides and at centre back, fine by me given the all round circumstances.

We are always hoping to improve season on season with better replacements..

I can't see the Mon sharing your view..

Where did I say I wouldn't "replace" him? If a better option became available I'd buy him. Doesn't mean I'd be rid of Bardsley though.

Just to flesh it out a little more. Look back at the Shank's old Pool side. When he began his rebuilding he kept hold of quite a few players a side of their stature could easily have replaced. He didn't do so and some them lasted years at Anfield. He was after continuity and a slow transition. One of our biggest problems has been we're continually attempting to "upgrade", and we've suffered the consequences, we've been in a state of flux for five years now, it hasn't worked and never will. Time to slow this madness down and recognise the need to lay some solid foundations. We need a few players to stick around a while and not all of them will be first choices.

Don't get me wrong...the lad has plenty heart, everything you said but Mon got shot of him at Villa and will do the same here...

Also thinking in terms of Europe,he wouldn't cut it..

I didn't say you did....

I was implying that Mon wouldn't keep him at the club...

Shitehalk

We'll see. If he has any brains at all he'll put a stop to this madness. We need a core of players who know and love the club, people to build on. Plain as day what's been wrong for years here. We can't buy enough top class players to progress leaps and bounds, what we need right now is a team, in every sense of the word.

I agree with all that but if we comfortably avoid relegation,i'm expecting Europe the season after...We apparently have a decent crop of youngsters coming through...

Maybe it's time for them to be the foundation..

It does have to stop totally...

How on earth can you expect kids who are at least six to seven years away from their best years to be a foundation for success over such a short time span? We don't have the same base that Man Utd started from. They were bolting three or four young lads on to an improving and successful side, not hoying them in and building a side around them.

I'm thinking Wickham,Meyler,Colback,McClean,Noble,Campbell...

That's a good foundation to start with..

Still Egan,Deacon,Knott and co to be blooded in..

Our foundation, for what it's worth after scrambling around for five years, would more likely be Richardson and f***ing Bardsley. My point entirely.

Well the Mon isn't a overhauling manager and would rather punt his budget on 1 or 2 players...

He'll steady the ship...
