Bardsley was injured in training

Also, some people on here seem to think we are some CL chasing team. We are SAFC and the likes of Phil Bardsley are the only players we can attract at this moment in time. Its unrealistic expectations of some fans that make us seem deluded.

We can attract considerably better than Bardsley. Bardsley could never defend properly, but this season he has added a stupid violent streak and needlessly shinning the ball into the stand at every opportunity to his game.

If we do really want to talk double standards though, may be we can start with how Cattermole tries hard despite his limitations and gets battered from pillar to post on here when he gets a single soft booking because he is 'a liability', yet these kind of threads repeatedly crop up defending Bardsley - a player who has missed a third of the season due to suspensions already - on the basis of how hard he tries despite his limitations.

Its the bare minimum I expect from a Sunderland player. Yet not everyone seems to adopt this approach. Nowt worse than a lazy footballer. Kenwyne, Bendtner etc.

There is like. A shit footballer is much worse than someone who's "lazy" (I dont believe Jones or Bendtner are lazy)

Dont Mr Fishpaste. Not allowed to post such sense.

Bardsley is a fairly decent player. He's no Ashley Cole but he does a decent enough job. He's solid enough defensively, prone to the odd mistake and his marking at set-pieces lets him down sometimes. But he's done okay this season. He offers more going forward than O'Shea...and hasn't been responsible for giving away as many goals as Brown.

And he was our best player last season...pretty consistent last year. Part of a defence that kept lots of clean sheets, he offered something going forward, setting up a few goals and scoring himself. And he stayed pretty much injury-free all year. Bramble or Gyan or Bent might have got it if they had been involved all year but they weren't.

We can probably improve on him, but I wouldn't sell him off. He offers an option at right and left back and he will always give 100%.

Have people been criticising him? He played well until he came off worse for fouling someone yesterday.
OShea, Sess and Bendtner were the missing links on Sunday...and we still only lost 1-0..happy times ahead...

I agree with everything here, except the stuff in bold.

If we want to push on under O'Neill then getting Bardsley out of the first team has to be a priority. He has no positional sense, has no idea how to defend against people running at him, goes missing when we are defending set-pieces, slows any attacking impetus we get on the left wing and continually blames other for his own mistakes. That comment about us fans expecting to win the league shows how out of touch he is.

The sooner he is either out of the first team or the club the better.

You get some of the most rational, level headed posters that still have their blind spot and irrational dislike of a footballer way out of reality. Mine was probably Ferdinand I just couldnt get away with him but in the cold light of day he is probably a decent enough player with obvious faults.

Yours is bardsley who is at worst a more than useful squad player for a moderate premiership team yet you have him down as Tommy Lynch mark 2
