Bardsley or Colback at left back

i think he made the % correct decision standing off. the cross had to be a bit floated so it was still hard for afri to get both direction and power.
they were baiting him to dive in and risk the penalty. the self discipline to let the player go who'd just got past him on that one/one situation was tremendous. he came as close as you'll ever get to taking the bait, the fly was in his mouth and half way down his neck and he managed to spit it out.
the pressure knowing you've got to defend hard but also that the opposition, like taylor did, are looking for an opportunity to go down is horrendous.
 Ok. Fuck sake man. I give up.

Can you explain to me how this shit player won player of the season twice? Presumably voted for by real supporters and not keyboard pontificators.......

Because for some reason up here, players like him and Danny Collins got praise when they were below average at best. He should never have been our player of the year, much like Collins. But he dived into tackles and scored the odd screamer with about a 1 in 90 shot ratio so people decided not to concentrate on how many goals he gave away due to his inept defending and quite possibly the worst positional sense I've ever seen from a defender.

His tackle on Coloccini as well was a f***ing embarrassment and summed up the fucker for what he is.

if i remember correctly wasn't he deliberately standing off and the player turned him to make space for the cross. That forced the cross to be slightly more floated.
i suppose it's down to your definition of skinned. when i played sport it would've been if a player had actually got around you, goal side, and left you for dead behind.
That's how i remember "being skinned".

He got skinned and they played a dangerous ball into the box, thats what happened. Stop waffling.

There were very few (if any) better performers than both Bardsley at Collins the seasons they won the award. Whether you like it or not that's true.

You could even say that shows how crap we were if you want but it still doesn't change owt.

From the top of my head (there will be more)

Kenwyne was better than Collins.

Gyan & Malbranque were better than Bardsley.

Bardsley won player of the year twice? f***ing hell.

We have a large % of fans who warm to effort players (our crowds love someone who gets 'stuck in). He joins the list of elite like Nosworthy and Danny Collins.

All debateable suggestions. Either way, no-one was streets ahead in terms of performances so it's daft to suggest neither Bardsley or Collins weren't worthy contenders for the award. They were both consistently decent at the time and (even tho it is laughed at on here rather bizarrely) effort goes quite along way with many supporters, something that your 3 suggestions could be rightly accused of lacking, quite often in atleast one of their cases.

Didn't realise Bardsley won it twice like. You sure about that?

Generally, Colback for me. However, i'd be tempted to throw Bardsley in against NUFC to try and counter Ben Arfa cutting in all the time and attacking Colback's weaker side.

Nowt wrong with effort like. It's something to be admired.

If a player is shite but gets stuck in our fans love them. Utterly bizarre.[DOUBLEPOST=1381753190][/DOUBLEPOST]

They were very average, as that is all they are capable of.

He's an absolute cunt
Bit harsh mate. I agree he appears clueless but it's just the lads' opinion like.[DOUBLEPOST=1381753379][/DOUBLEPOST]

2 average players in the premier league. Sounds about right. They were playing to their potential then? Not to be ridiculed that.

A player not playing to his potential deserves more grief than a one playing to his maximum.

Nah mate, just what was said when my post got quoted. I thought Bent & Sessegnon won it the other years.

Like you say it's basically a matter of opinion. I never rated Danny Collins at all, less so than Bardsley when he was here & Jones kept us up that year so I have no idea at all how Collins won it so I could never have that one justified to me.

Fair enough mate, just don't agree that people find it laughable that Bardsley could even be in the running for the award (not that i ever voted or owt) when it's not like there was a long-list of outstanding candidates who were great and got over-looked. Same with Collins, who i personally thought was consistently competent the season we stopped up which is all we could really hope for with the majority of that team at the time.

I bet Kenwyne had as many detractors back then n'arl mind. ;)

I see someone has started a team for Saturday thread with Dossena at LB.

That would be my choice but it may not be the right game to throw him in.
