Bardsley or Colback at left back

Although Colback been less than impressive so far, its still a no brainer between him and Bardsley.

It's still October and the transfer window is a fair way off. I'd say colback is by far our best option until then at least.
When the window arrives we then have the option of spending say £5/6million to get a proven replacement if one is available. I personally don't think that'll be as easy as it sounds.
The LB's who are clearly better than him would be very expensive and probably wouldn't come anyway. Of the others it's probably a case of "the grass is greener". Buying one from the lower english leagues is a gamble anyway.
My guess is we'll probably go for another De Fanti "Smart Price" player with a fancy name just to pacify the fans. Possibly a total unknown so there's very little youtube footage for people to know he's shit in advance.

Probably, maybe Dossena but i doubt it.

I'd love to think Dossena is a quality player but i'm not building my hopes up. It would be great if he is as it gives us more options and cover.
If Dossena turns out better than Danny Rose i'd be happy to put him in at LB and let Colback fight for his place in midfield.
Either way, fullback or midfield, i think Colback will continue to be a starter for us for the foreseable future.

At fullback, he probably will.

I honestly cant see him making it as a regular premier league midfielder imo. Good cover though.

He's still as good as any of our midfielders, there's very little to choose between the lot of them. they all have strong/weak points, including Colback.
If you include Giach in our midfield then in the last few games he has shown signs to be better than the rest. up till then i wasn't too impressed, especially as defensively he was absolutely non-existent. thankfully, he's upped his game going forwards and backwards.

It's a long season. Poyet needs to get his best eleven for the tactics he wants to play and stick with them for a while. Any changes should be minor and only if absolutely necessary.
There's been far too much unnecessary chopping and changing already this season. If i criticise PDC for one thing i think he "over-thought" his tactics and made way too many changes.

 Ok

We aren't exactly blessed with talent in there and Colback is every bit as good as most of them and better than the rest.
Over the last two seasons he's been at the disadvantage of actually playing games to justify his ratings though.
It can't have been easy keeping his mind and body fit and healthy so he's in a position to fully concentrate and actually contribute. Despite their huge wages others couldn't even manage that part.

He was woeful in midfield last season, worse than Larsson. One good game and that was it, ONE.

In your opinion yet he still kept on getting picked.
Is this debate whether Colback's as good as any midfielder in the league or as good as any at Sunderland? Two totally different arguments.
Every one of our midfielders has strong/weak areas. FFS one of them hasn't even scored a goal or assist in 4 years!!!!:):):):) 4 f**king years.

He was dropped after his MOTM performance against Everton. Result 6-1 against Villa.
He was re-instated against spurs away, result MOTM.

I also remember him being rested against norwich away after the outcry on here. We were two down after 10 f**king minutes.

An assist you say? Tremendous.
If you don't mind i'll steal a chant from Ronald Reagan's re-election campaign:- "Four more years, Four more years, Four more years, Four more years"!!:):)

Played very well, at right back.
Other than City at home, and possibly Arsenal away, he was shite in midfield.

he was MOTM spurs away.
in the circumstances he put in a great performance against the mags in the 0-3. He was never going to get the praises that others did and rightly so but he somehow came through a very very difficult assignment.
There were plenty of games where he was solid if not a match winner.

Colback.

How the fuck do people forget how shit Bardsley is? He comes back in for like 2 games and then everyone wants him gone again

Can you explain to me how this shit player won player of the season twice? Presumably voted for by real supporters and not keyboard pontificators.......

At left back.

At right back, we'll ignore him getting skinned for Ben Arfas header

i think he made the % correct decision standing off. the cross had to be a bit floated so it was still hard for afri to get both direction and power.
they were baiting him to dive in and risk the penalty. the self discipline to let the player go who'd just got past him on that one/one situation was tremendous. he came as close as you'll ever get to taking the bait, the fly was in his mouth and half way down his neck and he managed to spit it out.
the pressure knowing you've got to defend hard but also that the opposition, like taylor did, are looking for an opportunity to go down is horrendous.
