Bardsley has been 'replaced' a couple of times when we have brought in supposedly better RB's. Every time he has been up to the challenge and has regained his place, and if I'm not mistaken he is now our longest serving senior player?

Fair play to the lad. I couldnt care less what his driving is like, I'm more than happy to have him in the squad.

He has?

right back is not a priority when we're after 3 or 4 quality players. If we want to start buying right backs we might as well sign 6 or 7 players and have yet another rebuild as Bardsley is far from the weak link. I'd say we have 4 players who can fill in at right back and be fairly solid.

Ask Villa fans and they'd carry him up here on their backs.

I honestly do not give a shit what Villa fans think. On the whole they seem pretty clueless. They're one of the most fickle sets of fans in the league and if we took their opinions seriously then we wouldn't have appointed O'Neill and our fans would have been upset by the appointment. Were we? No, we were absolutely made up.

I saw Hutton play for us for 4 or 5 months and I thought he was a class act. Certainly the best right back I've seen at Sunderland and at the time had we been willing to stump up the wages we would have signed him.

Both Chimbona (attitude aside) and Hutton were considerably better full-backs and footballers in general compared to Bardsley. If we manage to keep hold of Richardson then I'd rather we brought in a right back before we signed a left back. Then again, perhaps Cuellar is our new right back.

Chimbonda, Hutton come to mind straight away.

 Hardly. Chimbonda wanted away/was a bad egg and Hutton was on loan. Both were first choice right back whilst at the club because they were both better than Bardsley.

He played for us a grand total of 11 times and was pretty poor defensively on more than one occasion.

Well done, you've just named two players who were selected ahead of Bardsley when they were here.

My point though was about the attitude of Bardo when they have been brought in, he's never let his head drop or want away and when the other deals have went tits up he has regained his place and never let anyone down.

I didn't see that, he was alright. Fantastic is pushing it a bit, in fact a lot.

We all share different opinions but surely you don't rate Bardsley more than you do Hutton. Although you do appear to have taken a dislike to Hutton for whatever reason (same could be said for my dislike for Bardo mind).

Bardo has a great attitude, no one questions this.

The old "poor defensively" myth. I can't remember Hutton putting a step wrong (was he sent off at Hull? If he wasn't he come close to and I suppose that would have been my only criticism). Not only was he steady at the back and hard (!), he was also good going forward, very good on the ball and he was quicker than Bardsley.

I appreciate that you rate Bardsley but you obviously choose to omit his defensive frailties from your memory if you honestly feel Hutton was poor defensively. Bardsley is regularly prone to errors, whether it's from poor positioning or lapses in concentration.

I certainly do, I think Hutton is hugely over rated. I'm not Bradsleys biggest fan, in fact I'd be looking to replace him however I think he's a better fullback than Hutton.

 He was rotten down Wolves last game of the season. I think Bardsley is canny and nowt more tbh. Also like his attitude.
Hutton played for us 11 times and looked canny sometimes, shite others. I'd rather rely on the lad av seen play for us over 100 times and generally done a canny job over a fella who has played far less and has been generally been pretty shit since he left. I don't agree with the "prone to errors" bit either.
