Daughter (no) transferred some money from her account to mine on the 21st, last Thursday. It left her account the same day and reached mine today,27th

Even allowing for the two bank holidays that is a shocking state of affairs

How do they justify that in an electronic age?

I have this problem all the time.

If I send the money as a payment to my other account it hits that day. If it comes out as a standing order it takes 3-5 days to clear even though they are going from the same account to the other same account. (HSBC-Yorkshire)

Seems a long time. Every time I've transferred money to another account its done within minutes. You sure she set the date to send the money correctly?

There's too much money to be made mate. 3 working days is their general SLA but you can ask for a Faster Payments transfer and it'll be there in 2 hours. They just don't advertise it very well.

I send money between my Halifax and Barclays accounts all the time and it takes about 10 minutes, regardless of the amount.

Given that banks don't process payments over a weekend the amount of time her transfer has taken is well within the usual time taken for BACS transfers.

They charge for the faster transfer, no doubt?

Nope, free. Most banks offer the service although I think there are some exceptions. It is typically only up to a maximum of £250 (I think) but Barclays don't seem to have that limit.
