Bands you've never really liked but went to see to please your other half/mates.

  1. Foreigner at The Apollo, Manchester for me last year. Went there thinking it would be a bit tedious but from John Parr opening with an acoustic set, followed by the excellent Joanne Shaw Taylor and through to Foreigner themselves it was a very enjoyable evening......Great musicians and seemed to have a real rapport with their audience.

    Toyah in 1982
I only bought the tickets for the girl I was going out with at the time
Sadly she gave me the Spanish Archer 2 days before the gig so I ended up going with a mate instead

I swear at the ripe old age of 17, that I was the only person in the audience with pubic hair

    Good ones:-
Japan, (wanted to impress a lass) band were excellent, quite got into them
Tubeway Army - mate reckoned they were good, quite good live
Dave Lee Roth - on a whim cos mate had heard "Just A Gigolo" Superb live

    Bad ones:-
Tanita Tikarim, same notion as Japan but epic fail
UB40, awful, not my thing at all, mate loved them

I seemed to be one of the few who didn't enjoy it. It was at the height of Bat out of Hell 'fever'. Cant expunge it from the memory.

The closest (thank God) I've come to that was after 10 hours on the drink at The Riverside watching the cricket. It was 25 degrees and finished with one of the best sunsets I've ever seen anywhere in the world. We went down to the front street and went in the first pub.
'Why have we got to pay a fiver mate?'
    'We've got a turn on.'
He didn't mention it was a fat sweaty bastard nearly wearing a white shirt and wig. He even brought out a shite Bonnie Tyler.
