Considering the age profile of those arrested it looks like the police have disrupted a local crime gang. They reported on the problem with local and London-based gangs last month.

It's a nationwide problem and growing. I was reading about the wrap up of Operation Sanctuary and in the course of their investigations they discovered 8 gangs operating on Tyneside.

Funding for Sanctuary has stopped but the crime figures for Newcastle are rising, sex offences up 54% on last year (that won't be all children). Doesn't paint a good picture for our vulnerable kids.
