Back/Hip Problems

Anybody on here have problems with their hips (cue jokes about getting it knocked out).

I am in constant agony whilst I wait for a MRI and Xray. The only thing that eases the pain is a hot bath, the meds, gabapentin and codeine are ok but not the answer.

I would be interested if anybody on here has hip pain and what they do to ease the pain?

Aye. I'm currently seeing a specialist with a view to a replacement op. Bone spurs developing, no cartilage left, it's shot to bits. Be careful with the codeine, in the liver it metabolises into morphine. In my case too much football and the bad news is they are both shot, oddly enough though I get no pain from my left side. In terms of the pain I do my best to resist using pain killers but then I'm hard as nails.

My hip / lower back went into a spasm and was the most painful ( physical) experience i’ve ever had, made an appointment at Birtley Osteopathic clinic, ( Old Police station) , they sorted the problem !

I havnt seen the whole thread so not sure if anyone has mentioned trying a chiropractor? I had a damaged disk years ago, the NHS fannied on for over a year with physio that did nowt. Although ultimately it was surgery that was needed, the only thing that made a noticeable ease to my pain was a chiropractor, he straightened me up a bit and gave me advice on how to sit etc, was well worth the money. Hope you get sorted out.

Had a pro lapsed disc problem, L5.
No surgery and a good 14 months of physio.
At the right time I got on my mountain bike and cycled every few days and to this day I believe that helped sort me out.
Now plenty of dog walks and fingers crossed no pain at all and all sorted.

Feel fo the OP as had some dark days with pain and pills.
If anything hope my post gives belief that you can recover.

Had hip pain for about 10 years now, just on my right side. Only happens after I've been on my feet for an extended time - 4-5 hours minimum, but gets worse if its day after day (for me, its terrible on holidays where I tend to do lots of walking).

I went through the physio route, and they diagnosed a core muscle weakness, and that it wasn't actually the hip, but the muscles causing the pain - muscles that were working harder than they should because of a lack of core strength.

I've since had another (private) physio confirm the same thing (she kindly checked it out whilst treating me for an unrelated accident).

Assuming this info is useless to you, I find the ibrophofen gel is useful, as is a heat patch. Simply getting off my feet does the most good though
Hope you get sorted asap.

Physio referral from the GP is usually quite simple - they are canny at working out if its a muscle or a bone issue.
Interesting "like" Steve - Funny enough, there was one update on this.

Turns out, my left leg is about 15mm shorter than my right. So 80% of my weight sits on my right side. Hence why a core muscle issue only causes pain on my right side.

Been wearing insoles with a lift on my left leg for about a year now. Definitely helps

That's half an inch. Do you walk round in circles? 😂
