AV - whats the crack?

Simply put, don't listen to ANY MP over this, as they are telling you what is best for their party - not for the country.

For me, AV has everything that FPTP has, but then adds more. Its a no-brainer IMO.

I don't get it, just means a party with fewer votes could get in, seems stupid. Also how much is the referendum costing us at a time when they're making massive cuts and how much more will it cost if it goes ahead? Much more important things to sort out and spend money on.

no more stupid than someone who 2/3rds voted against getting in. And it'll not be costing that much, as its being done at the same time as the local elections

I personally think AV is a poor system (albeit slightly better than the current one) but will be voting YES.

If the outcome is NO that puts to bed any chance of electoral reform in the future. It will be interpreted as people wanting FPTP rather than them just not wanting AV.

The Tories should keep quiet. They dont seem to realise them saying vote NO in itself makes most non-tories automatically want to vote YES.

Is there an option to vote yes instead of YES?

No it was the official one- havent seen the tories one.

I hate the tories but at least if you vote for them you know what you will get.

Anything that knocks Cleggs nose out of joint will get my vote.

Parochial twonk. Clegg will be gone in a few years and no-one will remember the reasons for your 'protest', just that you gave every Tory government from now till doomsday the mandate to rule the country with a third of the vote.

The arguments against AV are laughable and insulting.

The idea the system is to complicated FFS. Are they really saying the British public can't count to a number higher than 1?

I would say there will be a very large number of people who won't understand. Being able to count past 1 doesn't explain how your vote will work.
I'm not convinced as yet and will be giving it a lot of thought before I cast my vote.

The fact remains that, under AV, the Lib Dems are likely to substantially increase (almost double) their number of Seats.

It is for that reason, along with the fact that the YES campaign is funded by a company likely to benefit financially from a YES vote, that I'll be voting NO.

Party-political? Yes.
Am I arsed? No.

You put a one next to who you want, if there is someone else you would like to win if he doesn't you can stick a two next to him and so on.

It's the electoral equivalent of sending someone to the shop for some pop and telling them you'd like a can of fanta but if they don't have that you'd like a can of coke. Have you ever heard anyone struggle with that?

I understand it however there will be many who won't. Do you think they will know whether it is compulsory to put a number against each candidate for instance? The SMB is proof that a lot of people struggle with the simplest instructions. Admittedly a lot who would struggle wouldn't vote anyway but I do think it is a genuine concern.

I don't accept that anyone doesn't have the capacity to understand and if it is as simple as they haven't been informed yet then have it displayed everywhere in the voting booth and make sure people are told as they receive their cards. I really think it's ludicrous to say people won't be able to understand it. The only people who wouldn't are ones with genuine learning difficulties who i amuse don't vote anyway as they certainly won't have a grasp of politics of even know the date of an election if they're this detached from basic levels of understanding.

So what date is the voting taking place?

I'll be voting NO.

Its not party political at all as both options have multi party support (If you count the Tories & BNP as multi party) & those funding the campaign for a no vote are also likely to benefit from the no vote winning.

Why not just vote for what you think is best for the country as a whole instead of voting out of spite?

From what I can see mate parties like the liberals and BNP will prosper under this scheme and thats what worries me.

Clegg was everything to everyone before the election and look at him now the two faced tw*t.

At least with the tories and labour you know what you are getting!

I also think AV is an absolute joke and I hate the Tories as much as the next person. As far as I can see all it does is increase the likelyhood of a coalition Government time after time. The LiBDems are the only real winners.
