AV - whats the crack?

I agree the party with the most seats should have formed the government and I was dead against the idea of the liberals joining with Labour to form a government when the tories had more seats.

That said if the liberals had any principles they should have let the tories form a government and then when tuition fees came up they could have kicked up a fuss. But no an extra £50k wage packet, the chance of a big pay day from a book and a waste of time title and clegg becomes Camerons poddle.

Like I said I mite hate the tories but they have more of my respect than the liberals who havent got a single principle.

True mate Clegg whored himself all over the place and whilst I think he made the right choice ( it was time for gordon to go) its going to rebound on him bigstyle............

Vince Cable who pre election had as much credibility as any politician out there is now rapidly descending into a rambling retard who needs to be put out of his misery...............

I miss WHED. At least he wasn't quite so craven.

I'll be voting yes, it's not the voting system I want but more democratic than FPTP. Unfortunately I think this will move it off the agenda for the forseeable future.

I think the voter turnout will be shockingly low.

A minority government would have been a disaster. How could they pass upon the oppertunity of a referendum on electoral reform? Every party would have done the same in that position.

Who benefits from AV? and why should it be changed?

A more accurate reflection of what the public actually wants, and an end to the wasted vote.

What do you mean by 'the wasted vote'?

The no campaign is a fear campaign though.

You think this is a reasonable way to debate a subject then?

I read a leaflet from the No campaign today and it said:

"A vote Yes is a vote for Nick Clegg"

And that AV would "Benefit the BNP".

Lies and scare stories surely?

Nah, that's a shameful side of the No campaign that baffles me, but it's not all of it if you just have a wee read with a clear mind. Some of the rhetoric on both sides has been awful like, but it's certainly worse on the no side.

A vote that doesn't go towards an elected candidate. It's a slightly overegged term, but what is means in real terms is that your voice can still be heard if your number 1 isn't at the races.

AV also helps to limit the impact of Gerrymandering.

It's not the best system, but you'd be losing nowt from FPTP and gaining a lot more besides.

If you vote for the BNP and they dont get in = a wasted vote.

Aye.

Can you vote for one party? Or do you NEED to vote for more than one?

Just one if you want. You have a choice to vote for more.

What it means is you get 4 or 5 voices if your number 1 isn't at the racist, and a chance to vote bitterly and negatively without worrying about affecting the choices of your preffered candidate.
