Your too young to remember this then?
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/u...-the-ira-malcolm-pithers-reports-1490672.html

In February this year, 1993 the IRA claimed responsibility for bombing a gasometer in Warrington, Cheshire, and a subsequent bomb attack in the town's shopping centre which led to the deaths of two children.

In April, an oil storage tank at the Esso terminal in North Shields, Tyne and Wear, was targeted by terrorists who planted an incendiary device. The IRA also claimed responsibility for planting 12 incendiary devices in the Metro Shopping Centre in Gateshead.

Witnesses to Tuesday night's explosion said the sky was lit up for more than two hours. Police evacuated houses and flats in seven streets near the gasworks.

I wish I was too young, but that was 20 years ago man. Why would they still be jumpy?

:lol: good to see we have these lads protecting society.

I did have a slight grin at that, but though I'd better not push my luck

:) did they not ask to see your photeys? I know you don't need to show them, but it eases moments like this. That Troy Paiva bloke (Lost America) says he carries a few of his pictures around with him to demonstrate to confused police officers what he's doing. I've got a couple of mine on my phone, to help in situations like this - saves you carrying stuff about.

Have a look at this (it's on my phone too) explains what the polis and you can and can't do -

Interesting, Thanks.

In reality I'd probably just break out in a sweat, go all high pitched and show him the camera!

That's what my mate did. At the start of the night he was banging on about "You don't have to show them your address and id you know, blah blah".

As soon as the coppers stopped us, he had his wallet open so fast his credit card went flying.

got some queer looks off the police the other week, walking into a graveyard with all my gear at about 11pm. Luckily they were too busy breaking down someones front door with a battering ram!

Well I had a camera bag, tripod, portable chair.. At least I looked the part! haha

dunno if this works but class pic off last night on twitter from northumberland - https://twitter.com/#!/Nastronomers/status/194562933756407808/photo/1

purple and green aurora

Cracking picture, wish I'd had gaps as big as that. It's from Monday night though, I was in Northumberland last night and didn't see any aurora.

Bit of a purple haze in this one but I had just driven out of fog in that direction so I am sure it is light pollution not aurora.

Some more from Monday:
