I think he may be put off by the mpg though if he is wondering if the TT can really do 35mpg. The Nissan comes in a little bit short of that

Just a tad, I'm not a fan of big heavy naturally aspirated engines. They do the TT in a 3.2 V6 and it's meant to be pants

:)

With a 16k budget he could put aside some of that to off set the price of fuel! And you wouldnt get sick of just turning off the radio and listening to that V6!

I wouldn't even try comparing the TT with the 350Z. The Nissan is a far far far superior car in every way imaginable (apart from fuel consumption)

What about an Alfa Romeo Brera, its different, looks that part, it should be in your price range and you can one with a cracking diesel engine.

An older boxtster/cayman could be had for 16K - although the insurers will dry bum you.

Beat me to it...a mate of mine is in the market for a small, but sporty car because he's got about 80 miles round trip to drive each day and wants something fun to drive. He's down to deciding between a mid 2000's Z4 or an early 2000's Boxster - both in relatively the same price range.

Not a bad choice either way if you ask me.

Hard top even...13K http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/2693883.htm

A shout for a Mercedes SLK - I absolutely love mine.

Had a 350Z a few years back, probably the best car I've owned however fuel bills were through the roof back then, I dread to think what they are like now...

I think the only recent car in that price bracket that I'd get would probably be an Alfa Brera. There's a lovely red 2007 model for sale at Evans Halshaw on the A690 near Doxy Park, think it's only about £9k or £10k they're asking for it.

Tend to be called hairdressers cars by people who are limited to 5/7 seats because their wife or kids dictate they can't have a 2 seater.

Agreed, probably won't be able to hear people calling me a hairdresser anyway as I'll be doing 60mph in 6 seconds so the wind noise should cancel it out ;)

had the 3.2 TT conv

very very quick, great fun to drive, but sharp got sick of the running costs and impracticality

that and the fact i accidentally smashed the back window and needed a whole new roof (as the window is sort of stiched into the hood)

Gents,

Anyone have / had one of these? Are they any good?

Thinking about getting one in a couple of months, probs on an '08 plate for around 16k.

Is the combined MPG of 35 realistic? A few of the independent forums I've read would suggest it is.

And yes I know that the backseats are only suitable for one of the borrowers

Whats ride / performance like?

Same engine and drivetrain as my Mk5 Golf GTI - and yes you can get 35mpg average no problem , driving to and from the match from Berwick I usually average high 30s and have seen low 40s on occasions. Use V Power or Tesco Momentum 99 fuels if you get it though , they do run on standard unleaded but the MPG is worse on those so you aren't saving any money in reality.

Can the collective minds of the SMB point out what other cars I should be considering then?

Looked at the 3 series coupe, incredibly common plus a new 3 series is coming out next year. TT's aren't due to be changed until 2013 at the earliest.

Looked at an A5, but can only get low spec / very high milers in my price bracket.

Anything else?

I will sell you my black A6 Quattro 3.0 S Line on a 2006 plate 40k on the clock. It has every toy available. Absolute mint.
Yours for 15k
