Atmosphere..

Really? I had the "pleasure" of going to one of their home games last season v Everton I think it was, as the lad that would usually have entertained our clients was away on holiday so they applied pressure on me to do it.

2 things I noticed; One was that their corporate hospitality isn't anywhere near as good as ours and for what our company had paid it was pretty shocking value for money (our company has only booked there twice since) but the other thing was the atmosphere. At the SoL we have 1 section of fans who create the atmosphere, albeit I don't really feel the benefit of it in the North, but they had plenty of singing coming from behind both goals. The far corner of the Gallowgate (nearest the Strawberry pub) made a lot of noise and when the rest of that stand joined in it was really loud but they also had about 2,000 fans up in the gods next to where the away fans were that sang non stop and when the Mags below them joined in that was also very loud and on the 3 or 4 occasions where they all sang together I must admit it was bloody noisy so much so that you found yourself looking around at the crowd instead of at the actual match.

It was my only visit there since 2002 when we played them so i'm probably not in a great position to judge but they didn't play that well that day and it wasn't a particularly exciting game to watch as I remember so if that is a run of the mill atmosphere for them it is better than what we currently have.

Our atmosphere will improve when the performances pick up. Hard to get yourself going when you're bored rigid.

Yes, really. I've plenty of mates with season tickets up there and they reckon it's been largely diabolical for years - a few games a season being the exception of course. They said it picked up briefly when they created a singing section next to the away fans up in the gods, but that only lasted a year or two because Ashley broke it up after they started singing about him and now it's back to being shit.

Whenever I've watched them on Sky it's been shit as well; the one game it wasn't was when they turned over Man Utd 3-0 last year - whose ground wouldn't be rocking with that scoreline though?

You complete w@nker, what the fuck do you know about my passion for Sunderland or the majority of people for that matter. And worse still how do you know so much about the Mags.

I would deck the fucka if he pulled that in real life, as would many on here.

Maybe it was just a one off then but it seemed strange that the match I attended would have a better than normal atmosphere especially as it was a 12.45 kick off and they are usually flat as a fart. They also definitely had a singing section up next to the away fans last season so maybe it just got broken up during the summer.

Also i've noticed that the atmosphere at all the large football stadiums comes across shite on the telly. Games at Old Trafford, Emirates, St James, Anfield or when i've watched any of our home games back on the Sky+ all sound dead.

If they did they were shocking when we played them. We outchanted them all game. Only heard them when they equalised, they were even quiet after that.

It didn't, it got broken up the summer before because my mates had to move and switched to the Gallowgate next to the Strawberry corner and they absolutely hate it. This is their second season there and they reckon they're surrounded by boring twats who give them dirty looks if they so much as swear, let alone stand up to sing. That corner next to the away fans was made into a family enclosure they said, which they found baffling because they said the families will be shitting themselves when the likes of us and Man Utd are there.

I agree it does seem strange that the day you went it was a good atmosphere, yet staunch Mags I know who go every week reckon it's shite for the vast majority of games.

That definitely wasn't a family section next to the away fans there last season. A full 3 blocks next to the Everton fans were stood up throughout the 90 minutes and more or less sang non stop. If they've changed it to a family section it's only happened at the start of this season.

I'm only going off what my mates up there tell me, it can't be like that every game otherwise they would have moved back rather than spend their whole season in a part of the ground they loathe. And they definitely said (at the beginning of last season) that the corner was now a family section.

edit: feel dirty as fuck and will have to immediately delete browsing history to get rid of this disgusting website, but just checked the seating plan of their ground on nufc.co.uk (got there via Google Images, so thankfully didn't type it ;)) and it confirms that all of that corner except one block is a family section.
