was going to start a new thread but can't be arsed

whats this i hear about German football crowd violence being at an all time high and there is going to be a hearing to try and ban alcohol and introduce all seater stadia

They already have all seater stadiums, with the added safe standing.

They also average the biggest crowds in Europe. More people to arrest.

I can't see safe standing lasting much longer in Germany.

However the media are making bundesliga games sound like war zones, when they arn't

The creation of the "singing section" could be detrimental to atmosphere elsewhere in the ground if all the little knots of singing fans that were previously spread around the stadium were persuaded to go to the South stand this season by the the way the club "sold" it .

The worst thing about it is that despite the good intentions, the ones who promote it on here are complete wankers.
They think people "want to south stand to fail" ...no one does, just many think that too many of them are self important wankers.

That's true, and a real shame.

I still think the singing section a good thing, but the people who try and 'own' it are a very particular brand of supporter - the type who hates 99.9% of our fans, adores fans of other clubs (particularly the mags), and seem more arsed about self promotion than what's happening on the pitch.

They are, in short, people who'll be sniping at match going fans from the bar the very second they hit 30. Fortunately, for most of them that's 16 years or so away.

Speaking as a hardcore and utterly fantastic supporter in every single respect, I find the whole thing slightly deflating.

mags dont have this bother. as they said before, to sunderland the game is a passion, th oth emags its a religion.

Nail on head. And people saying that you didn't need the opposition fans to get ours going we're wrong too.

What bother is this you speak of? If you mean threads about atmosphere after their home games then you're correct, because at their place there isn't one to speak of. Our vocal support at home is far superior to theirs, despite fewer numbers. Your comment is probably offensive to a lot of Sunlun fans as well, a bizarre thing to say about your fellow supporters.

 Bet you were gutted to see my post after heaping yet more praise on the mags. Banged to rights.

South stand tried hard but it's difficult to create a good atmosphere when you know it's going to have a limited impact on what is going on on the pitch

Disagree there mate, he hasn't hit the nail on the head at all imo. Having pockets of "singers" scattered around the ground does nowt to improve the atmosphere elsewhere, as I know from personal experience. Before I moved this season I was in the NWC and always joined in whenever the lads at the back of the North got going or SWC likewise, but nobody wanted to know unless we'd just scored or it was against the Mags so I was normally the only one in the whole corner getting involved.

And all having opposition fans away from the chanters has done is remove the home-away fan banter - which many criticised anyway when the SWC used to do it - while on the whole improving the amount of SAFC-pro chants. What will seriously "get going" the fans is winning games and performing at least half decent, both of which we've failed to do all season up until now.

You complete w@nker, what the fuck do you know about my passion for Sunderland or the majority of people for that matter. And worse still how do you know so much about the Mags.

Komodo travels from his home in Gipetto's subconscious to games all over the country, virtually every day. Stands to reason that some of those games will include the mags.

Really? I had the "pleasure" of going to one of their home games last season v Everton I think it was, as the lad that would usually have entertained our clients was away on holiday so they applied pressure on me to do it.

2 things I noticed; One was that their corporate hospitality isn't anywhere near as good as ours and for what our company had paid it was pretty shocking value for money (our company has only booked there twice since) but the other thing was the atmosphere. At the SoL we have 1 section of fans who create the atmosphere, albeit I don't really feel the benefit of it in the North, but they had plenty of singing coming from behind both goals. The far corner of the Gallowgate (nearest the Strawberry pub) made a lot of noise and when the rest of that stand joined in it was really loud but they also had about 2,000 fans up in the gods next to where the away fans were that sang non stop and when the Mags below them joined in that was also very loud and on the 3 or 4 occasions where they all sang together I must admit it was bloody noisy so much so that you found yourself looking around at the crowd instead of at the actual match.

It was my only visit there since 2002 when we played them so i'm probably not in a great position to judge but they didn't play that well that day and it wasn't a particularly exciting game to watch as I remember so if that is a run of the mill atmosphere for them it is better than what we currently have.

Our atmosphere will improve when the performances pick up. Hard to get yourself going when you're bored rigid.

Do you not think it could be the case that the singing sounds louder cos you're in it?

The atmosphere in a ground is completely different depending where you're at. I don't think either party are lying, necessarily. I wouldn't take it so personally, if you sang you did your bit.

what's that got to do with you lot just hearing what you want to hear? Did you even bother reading the post you quoted?
