At a wedding, what would YOU prefer?

Getting wed in July (at the SoL as it happens). Just working out the cost of putting wine on the tables: 36 bottles will give each guest 2 glasses each (though many will not drink wine, kids for example) so more like 3 glasses each. I work at M&S and currently you save 25% when you buy 6 bottles, plus I get a further 20% off. 36 bottles will cost £118.80, but then we'd have to pay £15 corkage per bottle  (which is still cheaper than going for their drinks packages) bumping the total cost of providing wine to £658.80, more or less £7.30 per guest. So I'm thinking it may be a good idea to put the money behind the bar and offer everyone 2 drinks of their choice (or even just one drink and save a few quid :lol:)

So, would you prefer, as a guest, to have wine on the tables, or to have a drink or two of your choice from behind the bar?

Definitely the latter.
I can't stand wine myself.
But I think letting people choose their drink adds to the sentiment of what you're doing too.
What a kind and thoughtful gesture! What a gent!

Ferkinell

Put the money behind the bar

is it booked ? should have hung on surely its cheaper at a championship ground

We are getting married there in July too. Was canny shocked at the corkage charge when we found out. Even asked if it was cheaper for screw top wine. We are on the twightlight wedding package and which includes canapes (sp) and a drink reception. Managed to get them to agree to use the drink (which is a sparkling wine I think) for the reception as a toast at no extra cost. Result:)

wine on the table.

you will also need to buy something fizzy for the toast. m&s stuff is fine for that.

Oh aye, a glass for everyone for the speeches. M&S Rose Pinot Grigio Frizzante Blush, £6.49 a bottle, but with the current deal plus my staff discount it'll ber £3.89 per bottle

You got married there? When? And were you happy with how it went. Heard nothing but praise for the place as a wedding venue like.

Aye, great day and very well organised. But make sure you sort out the music for the ceremony otherwise they'll use a shitty little ghetto blaster that sounds f***ing shite.

It was priced at about the same price as most of the non religous venues that we looked at and because everything was to be there, reception, ceremony & evening piss up it was easier to just do it there and worked out as a very decent deal. We deffo got a free drinks package like, can't remember what we paid though.

I agree with what he said, except we certainly didn't get a free drinks package!! We paid for a glass of fizzy for everyone for the toast and 2 glasses with the meal, then they could fend for themselves!!

The organisers are brilliant though, nothing was too much trouble for them and they made sure we had a cracking day!

Aye, taking my Sony Giga Juke multi room hi-fi, just setting up my own playlists so using that instead of a DJ on the night too. Main unit on the dance floor, and 2 satellite speakers at the back, playing the same tunes in sync wirelessly. Great piece of kit.

5 years ago it cost me £13.95/head for a reception drink, 2 glasses of wine and the toast drink at the Marriott.
