Hate VAR.

We have had some absolute awful decisions go against us this season and have been extremely lucky with it today. It hasn't taken away the controversy, just added another layer to it.

Get rid for the sake of the game.

It's not a goal if the above is correct
The law I quoted is from the FA rulebook. The only debatable thing is whether Schmeichel had control. Imagine if Ramsey hadn't booted it, would Schmeichel have kept hold of the ball? I think he would as he brought his hand down onto the top of the ball and traps it between hand and ground so correct decision. If he'd had his fingertips on the side then it's obviously not under control so would have been a goal.

The FA rule below does include a hand and the ground so it's a 'debatable' decision. Would Schmiechel have lost control of the ball if nobody challenged it? I don't think so as he had his hand on the top of ball so right decision I suppose.

A goalkeeper is considered to be in control of the ball with the hand(s) when: the ball is between the hands or between the hand and any surface (e.g. ground, own body) or by touching it with any part of the hands or arms except if the ball rebounds from the goalkeeper or the goalkeeper has made a save.
What does that last bit mean - after “except”.
The keeper HAD just made a save and it had rebounded from him.

Does one hand on the ball count as under control these days?
I genuinely didn’t realise either. Regardless, I find the decision to be utterly ridiculous. A mate has text saying 1/12 of a second he had his hand on the ball, I mean ha’way?!

Looks like that's the rule, there's not really much the ref can do about that. The fact he was told to go over that quickly and then he only needed one or two looks at it suggest it is the rule.
I'm know it's the rule and the disicion is technically right but this has irritated me no end. I'm not sure why. I'm an ex keeper so I should side with Schmeichel and I don't even like Villa

How is it ridiculous? He had his hand on the ball and the ball was on the ground. It's black & white no interpretation required. There's no time limit
