And yet they've scored fewer goals than us, and played more games. Yet a 31 year old striker, who apparently can't get in their side, would get into ours ahead of the top scoring teenager in the country? Seems likely. The fact that Pompey leave out Brett Pitman says it all about their strength in depth. He'd walk into our team.
Arguably it’s the sign of a good side. The two Pompey promotion seasons I’ve seen, we’ve been the best footballing team in the division, and have pipped a hoofballing team to the title...Leicester in 2003 and Plymouth in 2017. This year, we are more like those Leicester and Plymouth teams. Streetwise, full of know how, but not the most pleasing on the eye for the purists. What you wrote there about Pompey, I could have wrote exactly the same about Sunderland.
We went one nil up at Plymouth , then sat back and let them attack (they could easily have scored tbh - not sure if they hit the post - but we have a tremendous goalkeeper who won us the 3 points (imo like))
We have 3 players in gooch , McGeady and maguire (and perhaps 4 in Maja) who can win games with a bit of magic.
Where I think we are strong , is in depth.
We have catts , Wyke, watmore , power all out, who possibly would all be in our starting 11.
That would be some step up from League one to the relegation scrap in the Premier League.
Sooo is Jonny still married then? And is his ex a wad?You know that 2nd second sentence is a direct contradiction of the 1st?
It is the equivalent of arguing that 'No, Jonny is not married. Only until he gets divorced.'
Also, Sunderland are 'still vulnerable defensively', yet Portsmouth are the equivalent of Man City at everything.
Sunderland have won 6 games in a row, and haven't conceded a goal in the last 4. Portsmouth have drawn 3 of their last 6, and conceded about 7 goals in those games.
I'd reiterate the point you contradicted yourself on - If Sunderland win their game in hand, they're top of the league. And we will finish the season in exactly that spot.
Nah, she's a walking contradiction that womanSooo is Jonny still married then? And is his ex a wad?
Don't have guts? I can assure you that they do. In Newcastle pub doors are wider, food store takeaway bags are bigger. These mags...f***ing pricless, they don't have the guts to be themselves and have to pretend to be a fan of another club to have a dig, very sad behaviour.
True. The sign of a good side (so they say) is when you play poor and keep winningArguably it’s the sign of a good side. The sides seem similar. I would slightly prefer your midfield to ours but I wouldn’t trade our defence. I’d take Maja all day but perhaps wouldn’t trade up the 3 you mention in behind, though I rate Gooch highly. Maguire did play for us when we got relegated from the Championship and though he wasn’t spectacular, he wasn’t awful either. Well remembered for a 30 yard belter v the Scum at St Mary’s, which was eclipsed by David Norris in the same game.
For me, the edge your squad has on us is the Cat 1 academy. I know we’ve got good depth ourselves...a 24 man squad all of whom have proved themselves as good first team players at some point, but for us we don’t have an U23 or development squad. You are the first team to come down with that status since the EPPP was introduced, so that does provide you with a resource in itself that no other club has down here. If you can keep producing the Humes, Mumbas, Kimpiokas, Molyneuxs, that’s a rate of production no other club can match.
GK: McGillivray. Great distribution and good all round keeper, not seen any weaknesses yet apart from possibility of a few mistakes this yearCan you give us quick rundown on your first 11 strengths/weaknesses.

CAM: Evans. De facto captain, hates Southampton, all round solid, but limited pace and skill compared to wingers
