Ashes Squad

This. We've criticised the selectors for choosing one day players for the test side for a while but plenty seem to be advocating Hales. His red ball record this season isn't anything special for Notts
Not exactly true .... we criticised the thinking that one day innings' can be simply copied across to red ball cricket.
We wouldn't have a go at picking rashid for Tests on the basis that he's pretty good bowling in one day stuff.

I'd make a big distinction between automatic success as a batsman playing in the top order in T20 to the same in Tests but I don't have a problem in principle to play Hales at number 5. You have different requirements for top order and middle order players.

I would also get worried if we picking players who don't play 1st class players for Test - so to me that rules out Morgan and Buttler - if they want to play Test cricket they need to play 1class first.

If this us true we deserve to get beat, what has he done to get a recall
Scored less runs than Jeetan Patel and 6 more than Ryan McClaren.

Certainly the level you'd expect a top 5 batsmen to be at to get recalled for the biggest series in world cricket.

Pretty poor year for championship batsman mind. Rocky the only one who banged the door in.

Must have done well in the BBL because his championship form is poor. Burns has scored runs for a while now be tempted to take him if we're taking 3 openers. Sky saying Overton, Foakes, Ballance and Billings all in contention

I've seen Bumble put Vince at 3 on his twitter. So I think it's nailed on like.

The media always seem to know in cricket whats happening.

England would absolutely kill Burnsey.

Vince to replace Westley?

Sounds like Ball will get TRJ place and they are debating Overton, Wood and Finn for the last spot.

According to the Times anyway.

Yep, Burns is the only one I see outside the usual suspects I'd think about.

I've never seen him I don't think, but you don't reckon he's got it?

He definitely could be good enough, and I'd be delighted if he got the call.

But he has a very unique stance/technique, and England have a track record of tinkering and f***ing players up. My fear is that he'd get called up, having the England set up fuck about with him to make him more textbook, and he'd lose what works for him.

If James Vince goes, I’m quite convinced that @DaveAngel will explode

With some justification TBF. Our selectors are on glue.

FFS.

Why not Plunkett? Genuinely fast, in form and a tough character. The exact opposite of Finn this season.

f***ing ridiculous.

I wonder if this is to replace Malan, I wonder if his BPL contract is watertight?

James Vince
So increasingly dismal performances in last years tests followed by an utterly mediocre county season gets you on the plane to Oz
What a fkin joke

It would make a helluva lot more sense to give a few new faces a chance and see if they can step up and handle the big stage
Given the current situation a couple of wildcard picks would be justified

Simon James reporting in The Times that James Vince is set for a recall to the Ashes squad.

That's absolutely f***ing embarrassing if true.

It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest though.

Couldn't agree more.

I'd have more faith in a lad coming in for the first time, completely embracing the situation and rising to the occasion. Than a bloke who has failed time and time again, against mediocre bowlers playing in alien (to them) conditions.
