Ashes Second Test - Adelaide

broad has a good record in oz and i dont think he's bowled too badly, always been frugal in the first two tests whereas woakes has only shone under lights,
Ballance/Vince - wouldnt want another lefty in that lineup
Yeah, fair comment. I don't think Overton or Woakes deserve to be dropped, but wonder if Wood could make a difference? Stokes missing and Ali doing his best Graham Swann impression (2013/4) is causing huge problems. I think we need to pick our best 7 batters and best 4 bowlers and take it from there. Problem is that the selectors have burdened us with a bunch of players not good enough for Test cricket. Vince, Malan, Curran, Ball, Ballance...... Where is the experience or the class? Cook and Root letting us down too. Only Anderson has stepped up really

What do you mean won’t , it’s not back street cricket I will take my ball away if I can’t bat where I want.

It’s test cricket he should be told where to bat.

Surely Bairstow can still bat higher though?

Well it seems there have been many opportunities already for him to step up to number 3, yet the team have persisted with square pegs consistently - so that gives me the impression he won't bend. The same way KP wouldn't budge.

I would stick Bairstow at 5 personally. Ali back to 7.

Someone hoy Beefy a bat.

TMS have been praising Malan growing into the role, and calling his selection a surprise success. Interesting that the consensus on here is to drop him.

I think he's had a decent start to his England career. Batted well the other night but just got a good ball

Yeah agree with Bairstow, but think Root should be made to bat at 3, could understand his point of staying at 4 if we had a suitable number 3 but we clearly don't, it's time to stand up and take that responsibility.

Fucked it up is way too strong. It would have been England’s biggest ever chase
True but this is the SMB exaggeration is our way of life

We were never gonna do it like. Just so disappointing to have done the hard bit and in true england style under Bayliss a collapse of 5 plus wickets for less than 100 runs

I'd bring Crane in as spinner. Ali shouldn't bat in top 6 in anything other than Asian conditions.

Pick between him and Foakes at 7 but I would really want to take the gloves off Bairstow.

Wood for Broad and Stokes for Overton.

Stoneman
Cook
Root
Stokes
Bairstow
Malan
Ali
Woakes
Wood
Anderson
Crane
Crane at the WACA be like Kerrigan only worse.

This Lyons record there is awful never mind someone untested

Fair enough marra. A case can be made for Patel? But leach? not sure about that like.
Leach is a good bowler, the problem is he's not hot with the bat and if you add in that we have Anderson, Broad, Overton plus two dodgy batsmen and losing Ali as well the batting line up looks bad.

If you could include Leach for a bowler (ie depend on him doing the same job that Lyon does for the Aussies), retain Ali as a batsman only instead of Vince or Malan then he could be an option, but it's a risk imho.
