Ashes 5 test - The Oval

Theres nothing in his career to suggest a way to deal with him though. That's mainly why hes so good. Hes just there forever.
He isn't best in the world for no reason.

He has a weakness to left arm spin, but Leach has failed to capitalise.

If we don't make it 2-2 from here we only have ourselves to blame

The fielding all rounder - very lippy for a bloke who can't bat

I completely take this comment back. If the kid can bowl like he did today (got Cummins with an 88 Mph delivery) then he's alright by me
Little Sam's got something about him, can't put my finger on it, maybe a bit of his dad's combative style about him but he will be an important part of England's future once Broad and Anderson have packed in.

I think this. He and his brother have a bit of attitude about them.

It’s easy to love Curran. He’s got bottle and he’s a really clever bowler but for me on at least half of the venues in world cricket you can’t pick him. In England at times and in NZ but it’s difficult to see how he would take wickets in Aus, India, Pak, SA (maybe Durban) etc and we have seen how totally ineffective he was in WI. For me he is a horses for courses cricketer. If he ends up being effective all over the world I will be the first to say I’m wrong

Having g just got back from my Saturday morning bike ride I was a bit pissed off.

Didn't really pay attention to the morning news,I just heard England have a lead of 70 odd, nothing else.Smith unbeaten on 80 ish.Not a lot to go on so nobody really knew what was going on due to the time difference. We assumed England had probably bowled Australia out very late and that was end of play.

Get home now, check the scores ,and really surprised to see Archer has 6 for 62 ish.

No mention at all of that on the 2 news bulletins I vaguely paid attention to.I will have to ring the station up and complain ,that is shocking.Usually there is not that much home bias,it is bad.

Tbf you’re basing this on just two Tests in the Caribbean where we totally screwed up selection (shock) by omitting Broad and asking Curran to open in the first Test then he only bowled in first innings of second Test where he did ok as second change.

He was player of the series against the No 1 side in the world just last summer. He’s gutsy, got something about him and makes things happen. He should have been in at Old Trafford, there is no doubt about that now and he deserves more respect than comments about farting it down at 80mph, imho.

Great is stretching it mind

Steady is probably better. He's done enough to claim his spot as an opening batsmen for England for the foreseeable future. Now to get him a partner, and a number 3, so root can go back to 4. And we might actually have a decent batting line up.
Curran today was brilliant, the difference

When Jimmy is fit how do you fit him in? It’s tricky when you have archer and stokes

Just feel in England he has to play

Very true

Just think there’s a lot over analysis of our team we’ve been beaten by one of the all time great performances, we haven’t been thst bad otherwise on my opinion

First test they won as we were playing with 10 men

For me you have to be looking at Curran as the long term replacement for Anderson.. How much has Anderson got left for us? Not very many at all imo. Injuries are taking its toll on him. Controversial opinion here but id be calling it a day on him now and look to the future. Get Curran in now and keep him there.

Good piece on Curran

All I'd say is that rain saving Aussies at Lords was massive

If we'd won that and heading into Leeds with no Smith

Just never hear any journalists mention Lords, we would have won that.
I wonder how an attack of Jimmy/Broad/Archer/Curran/Stokes/Leach would have gone

Wouldn't have lost any runs by losing Roy either

I am really frustrated,we really could have won this series.
Wasn’t just rain saving them at Lords, they got to substitute their injured player for a lad who got a crucial 50 and top scored. Without his runs we’d quite possibly have won even with all the time lost. While as you say, when our best bowler got injured, we had to play with 10 men.

They’ve carried quite a lot of luck this series the Aussies, Smith & Lasagne particularly.

Papering over the cracks with the 'luck' statement.
They've been better in all departments and by saying the likes of Smith and Lasagne have been lucky is doing their bowling attack a huge disservice.

Nah can't be having that. We've been evenly matched in all departments, with one exception.. Smith! Yes you could say we then aren't matched in batting department, but without Smith, we win the Ashes.

I don’t think it is papering over the cracks really. They’ve both been dropped numerous times, Smith out off a no ball, like I said them getting to substitute an injured player (for the first time ever) who made a crucial contribution while we had to play with ten for all bar 4 overs of an entire game. The weather has also been more kind to them than us overall. They’ve bowled well, however, take nothing away from them in that department. Other than that we’re two evenly matched sides and if little things had gone our way instead we could easily have won this series.
