Couple moved on...Youlden back fromCLS. My point was that they are generally not very good!
They tell me young Hills has fucked off back to Gateshead, comes helps em down and moves back for premier league cricket, some club man  .Legend in his own lunch time for a young un.
So was Youlden for that matter, good cricketer , just 1/4 as good as he thought unfortunately:lol:

Where in Gateshead though?
There was lots of land around Gateshead Stadium. A lot is old industry sites, maybe contaminated beneath the surface but as a consequence there'd no doubt be lots a grants for clean up available.

I'd have thought Gateshead Council would fall over themselves to have the Stadium and a first class cricket ground right next to each other.

the metro link is good too.

Not savvy about Gateshead. Sure a local will know better than me.

Hampshire used to play in a similar type of ground to Ashbrooke (hemmed in, residential area) when they were at Northlands Road. Nee way would they have got owt close to the Rose Bowl built on that site. I think C-L-S is a fine location. In the age of the car even people from the south of the county can get there in 20-30 minutes.

Aslong as you can drive CLS is a good location as like you said its not a long drive for people all over Durham but if you can't drive its a nightmare to get to.

but when it's a big match ....... then you need to do the park and ride thing. For transport access Gateshead would have been better.

C-L-S has two things going for it.
1. it's a nice setting (with those camera shots across to the castle and whatnot that you see when Sky are there)
2. it's in the heart of the County

My Ma and Da lived in the new flats over looking Ashbrooke for about 3 years. However, I don't think they would have been built when Durham got 1st class status.

As others have said Ashbrooke would have been a nightmare to develop. There's no room to the East of the Ground, the old North Stand could have been easily flattened but it's still hemmed in. So that's 2 sides with very limited room. There would be no space for proper parking either.

All in all a complete non starter.

They have trains, and if you want to encourage Test Match cricket up here then you have to make it easy for MCC members to reach.

A good reason to extend the Metro I reckon like. MCC members don't even bother turning up for games at Lords tbf, and that's on their doorstep.

I usually park in CLS town centre, about a 10 minute walk from the ground.

Its ideal really. Even for the busy international games its a short walk back to the car and very little traffic to escape.

shows the county cricket grounds. The blue ones seem to be Test grounds

the ECB (or the MCC if we are making it up) are clearly anti northern
