Asda and Morrisons rationing fruit and Veg

Well apart from:
2017 - Tip of the iceberg: lettuce rationing broadens to broccoli and cabbage

and all the Irish supermarkets which having the same issues which last time I checked are in the EU. It happens all the time. Brexit won't help but it isn't the cause.

Agreed on the side that were not growing anything though mind and the government should be critisised for that instead, farmers have been left to rot with the energy increases and aren't getting the support they need. It's something that should be discussed more but it's been overshadowed by other things. Even the Telegraph has turned over it - The Tories have abandoned farmers – and risk losing the rural vote

Yeah have a read of that article, that was once in a generation flooding and they solved the problems pretty quickly by importing from elsewhere. This is more of a supply chain issue with problems getting the stuff out of Africa and back from Spain. Pre Brexit you could sort this pretty quickly with a fleet of European subbies, but as it's a short term problem (and the subbies won't do it anyway, nobody wants the hassle of crossing the channel), they wont bother.

Local fruit shops fully stocked with all the products on restriction in supermarkets. Granted they have gone up in price but surely this is because the wholesalers are paying it from growers and supplying it through the usual channels and retailers are passing on the cost and supermarkets will just say no to the price increases using their own supply routes.

Buy local and you don't have to experience the chav safari of Asda

I'm surprised Asda shoppers have even heard of fruit and veg.

And yet it’s only Britain that has a shortage. A point you repeatedly ignore for some reason, as if you thought “taking back control” meant you not taking any responsibility for your idiotic political choices.

Because it is. Your complete lack of understanding of how the single market and customs union work doesn’t change that fact.
So I voted Brexit did I...bet you believe the wife beating posts too 🤣

You're newish so I'll let you off. About me: I don't vote, I don't understand Brexit, I didn't vote on Brexit, I don't care if we are in or out of Europe, I'm an Elf that plays in the long grass.

I stated a fact that we used to grow tomatoes in the UK...from that three people deduced that I was up for a political / ethical debate. My dear friend, I'm serious about human harmony, everything else makes me laugh, especially people taking me seriously.
I'm a clown, enjoy 👍

Oh to be back in the EUSSR with the butter mountains and wine lakes we used to have. Famines and feasts every year as farmers planted whatever they got the best subsidies for instead of what was needed.

Sorry, had to quote you again...what were you thinking?

Pure Gold :D

Call me a cynic but is this not just another excuse to frighten customers and put up prices,
M&S are saying they accept that they have found some shortages they have acted and found other markets. Tesco, Sainsbury, Aldi and Lidl are not rationing veg.

No. Read the articles. It’s purely climactic. The countries we get fruit and vegetables from have apparently gone through a lot of unseasonal conditions that has harmed productivity. That’s what I read.

It's all about supply chains. If everything is ok post brexit then we get stuff. If not then the fact that a lot of stuff we import goes via EU is the kicker.
They'll obviously take what EU needs (as we would do) then forward rest onto UK.

My company does same. Imports from USA to Holland & then onto UK. We've seen plenty of issues with EU to UK shipping so in that Case, EU gets & UK might not.

All this was voted for BTW.

Correct, our current shortage of tomatoes is nothing to do with Brexit.

How many mini crises have we had in the last few years that the words "nothing to do with Brexit" have been uttered?

How often do we have something good happen and the words "this is because of Brexit" get uttered?

The only one I can think of is the vaccine roll out which was a lie anyway as we done that why we were still part of the EU.

Some are. Especially the “eee in my day” lot. Aye, in your day everyone got measles and polio was still a thing you divvy twats. Take your polo shirt, your Daily Mail and your Vauxhall Vectra and fuck off.
See you're still doing your bit for global harmony 👍
