How long is this guy out for? we missed him last night! i reckon if he had been on Jageilka and Distin would have shit a brick.

He's only just come back from injury tbf. Just blowing off the cobwebs...

This.

We all knew he would look unfit and off the pace. This game was meant to be his comeback and we could ease him in, knowing there was no pressure on him as we had Asamoah. But he got injured in a f***ing pointless friendly.

So Bent got thrown back in at the deep end. We are very lucky that he did not have a reaction to his hamstring injury.

Hope so lyk, Bent was shite last night. Looked slow as owt.

Speed isnt his game, which is why I'm hoping he will combine well with Gyan (bear in mind Welbeck isnt our player). But in extra-time he would have had a tap in if he'd been seen/found - point is he put himself in a tap-in position unmarked. Ridiculously to fling any real condemnation yet, but it looks as if he will not produce the haul of last season - as widely predicted.

Hope so, at the moment he is our 3rd best striker. Welbeck gives you a better outlet and Gyan looks much more dangerous imo. He can make something out of nothing. Plus if gyans goal at chesea would have fallen to bent he would have hit it right at the keeper.

I think we've got to let Benty off last night, it was an average game for him, but he hasn't played since the mags. He's got 90 minutes under his belt, now a full week of training and hopefully Gyan back for Saturday should help ease the pressure on him. If Gyan and Wellbeck start against Wolves, we'll hopefully be able to bring Benty on in the 2nd half to get some more game time under his belt. His injury is likely to be hanging around in some small way for a little while so we need to give him time to get back to full fitness.

We're being slightly harsh to criticise I think, especially as most of what Benty had to do was chase endless long balls because Anton forgot we had a midfield.

His only other one-on-one this season (vs blackburn) was shite. in fact i cant remember when he scored a 1-on-1. Hopefully when he is fit his movement will allow more space for gyan (and vice versa). But atm Wellback is mint, him and Gyan up top for me, all day.

Tbf he wasnt exactly recieving world class service last night, he was just getting long balls punted up to him and tbf to him he was winning his fair share against distin and jagielka so with the service he had I think he done alright considering it was his first game back from injury.

There's some right clueless fucks on this board like.

Burnley last season was a perfect example. It was his first game back from injury against Blackburn and he didn't look sharp at all. We all know the fully fit Darren Bent would bury them in his sleep ffs  Also, Blackburn last season he scored a brilliant 1 on 1. Those two are off the top of my head.

Bent's never been a run at defenders striker though, he's a poacher, that's not to be underestimated. Anyone who has played football will know that the ability to know where the ball will end up isn't just luck, it takes tremendous knowledge of the game and discipline, and he's great at it.
Gyan will create those sort of situations as well.

Because he's been out though, and Gyan has been more or less world class, I think people have forgotten what Bent plays like and expected a Gyan-esque performance last night, but he's not capable of that, and not many strikers are.

There weren't many of Bent's 24 last season which were anything more than good chances in the box. But there weren't many strikers in the league scored more than this either, which just goes to show how valuable a good poacher is.

Him and Gyan, if they co-operate, we'll terrify defences.

People on this board are f***ing ridiculous. I had a shit load of people jump down me throat a couple of days before the game for saying that we shouldn't rush bent back, that Gyan and Wellbeck should keep their place because they did well against Chelsea and it makes sense to ease bent back into things.

As it turned out, Gyan wasn't fit so their hand was forced. Of course, bent is rusty and didn't play great - we shouldn't expect him to!! Ridiculous that the same people who were saying that we HAVE to start with Bent and Gyan every game when they are declared fit are the people who are now chastising bent for being poor. f***ing ridiculous. Give the lad a chance, and try to understand that professional footballers in the premier league are incredibly honed athletes who need game time to get back to their best. Look at Torres - takes him five games before he looks like a good player, and he is one of the best in the world when he's fit.

Getting pretty sick of the morons on this board to be honest

Some people have such short memories. If Bent constantly hits the keeper how did he manage to score so many goals last night?

He is still the best, most proven, premier league striker in our squad.

Bent out!
