As we currently stand

We've bought two centre-backs and have six on the books, with three full-backs who can also play there?

How many do you want?

No, but kicking off before the transfer window is done and a ball has been kicked - does.
I don't see anyone kicking off.
People are giving there opinions on whether we're weaker or stronger.

I'd say we've strengthened in defence and midfield.(also lasts seasons younger players have more experience and potential to improve)

I think we're definitely weaker (as it stands)in attack.
But there's plenty of time to rectify this.(as I'm sure we will)

Point to where I said we'd score 31 goals less.🤔
We need to replace the 31 goals we've lost, the players replacing those 3 players will need to score those goals or contribute in another way to the benefit of the team.
Who's the replacements for Simms, Amad and potentially Stewart.
Hemir could potentially be one but we'll need more.
Last season SAFC won 18 (39.15%) of league games; we drew 15 (32.61%) and lost 13 (28.24 %).

I think that it is broadly accepted that we are likely to be stronger in defence with the return of Baath, Ballard (and eventually Alese and Cirkin), the signings of Triantis and Seelt, and the added experience that Hume, Gooch and O’Nein have under their belts. And importantly better luck with injuries than we had last season.

If the improved defence can turn games that would otherwise be draws into narrow victories and those that we might otherwise lose into ‘skin-of-the-teeth’ draws, even if the team doesn’t score as many goals as last season, the club will accumulate more points.

Our league position is not likely to be determined by how many goals we get, but by how many points we get. Last season is not this season.

That is not to say that I don’t agree that an additional couple of strikers and a reserve goalkeeper who doesn’t need to ask his Mam if he can stay out late for midweek away games wouldn’t be welcome - they most certainly would. Given the recruitment record of the club in the last couple of years, I’m confident that resolving the situation is in good hands.

Totally agree.
I've said elsewhere on the thread that we're stronger in defence and midfield.
Also our younger players are more experienced have hopefully improved.
I'd like to see another forward brought in though as we may struggle to score goals.
I'm pretty certain we will be bringing someone in like.

Weaker up front until the Stewart fiasco gets sorted. I know people say “we figured out how to score without him” but that also was when we had Amad and Clarke and Roberts flying around spreading the back line. I don’t see Ba or IL being the guys to replace Amad for now. Stewart coming back I feel like is essential to our success up front, don’t care what people say about his health issues, when he’s on the field he scores.

Get a backup keeper, get Stewart back, add another striker for depth, and maybe another loan in the front end and we are a very dangerous team. Midfield we look stronger than I remember in as long as I’ve been following the lads.

to be fair a number of posters have been saying the same stuff for last 12 months - a few weeks isn't going to change anything for them
i have seen a few threads like this and wonder why? five weeks. anyone can leave and anyone within reason can sign.

Can we wait until we get our (probably 2) loans in from Premiership clubs --- hopefully these will be an Amad & Simms(Stewart) replacement.

2 quality attacking loans & we'll be in business.

Are we stronger or weaker than last season?

Amad obviously a big miss and not having a Simms or Stewart up front makes us a bit one dimensional at the minute.

Look alike we have a bit more strength in depth in other areas though, and the youngsters like Hume, Neil etc will be a lot stronger than they were at this time last year.

Overall, we seem to look like a top 8 team, but a couple of good acquisitions up front and we could be looking at a comfortable top 6 finish. Unfortunately, we may have to wait until late August to get additional incomings on loan from the prem.
Urgently need striker. If Portuguese lad gets bullied we are fucked. Finish 8th which is ok

Yeah, hopefully he hits the ground running and by the time he hits a wall and needs a rest, the last minute loan signing we make on August 31st, and a returning Stewart, are ready to take over for a few months!

Does Stewart not count because he’ll miss the first fortnight ?

Explain how we have lost 31 goals. Stewart might miss 2 weeks and Amad signed last week of august?
The OP said now, meaning today. There has been no forecast on when Stewart will be back but won't be for the start of the season if at all if the rumours are to be believed about clubs showing an interest in signing him, and with him failing to sign a new contract, which has been dragging on for almost 12 months. So we have a young inexperienced lad as our only striker as of today. We have failed to replace Amad, still have players out injured along with a back up keeper who is 16 years old. And I repeat, the OP said today, things could change hopefully for the better.
