Are You Optimistic/Pessimistic About the Future...

All I see is people getting more and more greedy and playing people to make themselves richer and richer.

Over crowded Country, being ripped up for more ugly new build houses all over looking each other. Infrastructure can’t cope.
Crime going undetected with laughable consequences for those that do get caught.
Soft as shite we have become, standards have fallen big time.

Done with politics now. No more.

Are there bigger short term issues?

Unless your a complete climate change denier most scientists seem to accept we are 25-30 years at most away from a complete climate disaster.

Not diminishing cost of living etc… or saying we can in isolation do anything as a country to stop the environmental issues the World is facing, but if/when it does occur everything else will pail into insignificance.
Al Gore and others spouted all this 30+ year ago and nowt happened. I also thought Greta had put a ten year threshold on this... about 5 years ago. The reality is even if you believe all this it's being preached to the wrong characters.

I think standards falling is a massive thing, from simple stuff like taking accountability for our own health to how much pride we take in the quality of our work.

It seems like many can be quite apathetic about stuff like littering their own pavements so what’s the chances of getting them to care about the polar ice caps.

"Most scientists"?

Of the world, human race?

Quite a few challenges...

Global warming and sea levels rising
A growing population placing ever increasing pressure on natural resources that are being destroyed at alarming rates
Species going extinct at alarming rates
the capacity to wipe ourselves out
Fears around AI

To counter that...
We're aware of the challenges is a good start
Technology and science could help bring solutions
We're showing more and more interest in the wellbeing of the natural world
Global birth rates are declining
We're becoming more compassionate as a species

So you feeling optimistic or pessimistic?

I think it could go either way but personally I'm optimistic about the future.
We are a brilliant race. We are apex predators and have conquered the planet.

Now we need to save it.

I believe we will.

I think so. If you go back to Roman times, slavery was rife, war was seen as a glorious thing, we used to watch people kill animals and other people for entertainment. Crime and murder was definitely more rife.

Found this a good book on the subject.

Not everyone agrees though.
More compassionate my arse. The Romans were not racist for a start. Yet just in the 20th Century we had the Holocaust and Cambodia. Add in Rwanda and Myanmar. However I am pretty optimistic that this shit species we can humanity will destroy itself one way or another and the planet will be a better place with it gone. So overall very optimistic.
Since I had the awakening it all made sense. We are being led down the garden path.
Your awakening was you being led down the garden path.
....

Regarding the book:

The New Peace: Pinker calls this trend "more tenuous", but since the end of the Cold War in 1989, organized conflicts of all kinds – civil wars, genocides, repression by autocratic governments, and terrorist attacks – have declined throughout the world.

What planet is he on or is he just taking the piss?

The Romans weren't racist as a group status far from it in fact.

I left my duds for over two days in the washing machine, after the 60° wash. In this climate, doing them again... I'm on the end of days route. Send in the Terminators

Karen i wasn't talking about covid, do the world a favor and put the drugs down, step away from the booze, and read a book that isn't rapped in tin foil.
That's fair enough, as long as you realise the starting pistol was March 2020, thats when it manifedted, the time the garden path was laid. And here we are in the here and now, totally normal 🤔
