I sometimes get flues to examine and you wouldn’t believe the amount of corrosion you find in them. Stainless steel turned to the consistency of insect wings. That’s the shite people are burning.Does feel a bit like that, doesn't it?
In reality the average* wood burner chucks out loads of shit into the air. So in urban areas, that's probably a very bad idea. In rural spaces though, I don't see how its a problem at all.
* yes yes, I'm sure whoever argues with me on this point only burns the best, cleanest, driest wood known to man etc etc.
Chemicals on the wood reacting with the metal?I sometimes get flues to examine and you wouldn’t believe the amount of corrosion you find in them. Stainless steel turned to the consistency of insect wings. That’s the shite people are burning.
wow i never knew it was so bad, wonder what damage its doing elsewhere?I sometimes get flues to examine and you wouldn’t believe the amount of corrosion you find in them. Stainless steel turned to the consistency of insect wings. That’s the shite people are burning.
It’s chlorine mainly, which is Kryptonite to stainless, and it’s found everywhere.Chemicals on the wood reacting with the metal?
Ours gets cleaned but apparently they can tell if you burn wet wood so lose ya warranty if you doThey need to

Got a load dry in the wood shed and some other bits that need chopped up later in year that been drying since last year
Saves a lot of money as wellLove a wood store, me.
I miss our log burner. Great for warming the house. I'd also question whether "Smokeless fuel" is any good too
For all everyone knows about chlorine, I can't immediately think of any reason it would be on scrap wood. I assume it forms during the burning? It’s chlorine mainly, which is Kryptonite to stainless, and it’s found everywhere.
I have 3 open fires and a log burner. Costs a fortune as I have them swept every year. How often do people clean their chimneys?
Never at a guess.
Be chimney fires all over in a few years
Aye makes me wonder that as well? For all everyone knows about chlorine, I can't immediately think of any reason it would be on scrap wood. I assume it forms during the burning?
What about bleached wood? Also people hoying any old shite into their burner, plastic etc.For all everyone knows about chlorine, I can't immediately think of any reason it would be on scrap wood. I assume it forms during the burning?
Open fires aren't particularly efficient. You can have it blazing away and hot but most of the heat disappears up the chimney. A log burner gets hot and the ironwork radiates and convects heat into the room.bring back coal. way better than wood. wish i could put a open fire in my flat, would heat it up far cheaper.
Is the not in drift wood or is that another thing entirelyFor all everyone knows about chlorine, I can't immediately think of any reason it would be on scrap wood. I assume it forms during the burning?
The burning of wet wood is being banned. We've got one of these in the house & love it. Was also going to get one in out building as well. I can get daft cheap wood so heating bills almost nowt.
But seen contradictory stuff. Papers saying govt already encouraging councils to fine people using them.
But then went on a few wood burner manufacturers sites they say its bollocks. Just that you need a new clean one that meets regs. But then they kinda have to say that.
Anyone bought one & know what crack is?
