Are we improving??

Could and should be a lot different with jones and gooch in the team. Hopefully vokins is an improvement anarl and we have stewart coming in too.

Mcgeady dragged us through that game. Think we missed Bailey Wright at the back against such a physical team. Probably should have played Sanderson instead of Power knowing they'd just lump it into the box for 90 mins.
Individually I think players are improving, but team selection is still questionable.
He's obviously still tinkering and he probably doesn't realise how shit some of the players are yet. He is making selection mistakes but I'm not blaming him just yet. The players' abilities influence a performance more than the manager can and we have a slightly better than average squad for the division. People say that other teams could only dream of having the likes of McGeady and it's a fair argument in one respect, but let's look at the other side of the coin. How many of the better teams would take O'Brien, Power, McFadzean, Flanagan, Scowen, Burge ? They comfortably cancel out any advantage McGeady might give us.

Yes slightly...i think we would have lost today and drawn with Shrews and Ipswich under Parky.....thats 5 points better off over the last three ganmes

Expected a draw at best today as posted in the forecast thread yesterday. I think it's a pisspoor league with every side in the league capable of beating the other. We lack brain cells in our players and the manager already looks st a loss with them. We are still in with a shout and the new signings if they hit the ground running with a bit spark could clinch it for us but they lack confidence and look nervous in every game that's Lincoln away included. Its that shit a league we could win it

The squad is better, the judgement player ability is better, the use of youth is better - but the performances haven’t really been, ultimately. He’s had more to deal with than Parky- and I’m glad that we’re attempting more of the right things (don’t think I could take any more of the bullshit shuffling the ball across the back 5 that was Parky’s only tactic). We were more productive at the start of the season, though, for sure.

Does all of that mean that we were wrong to want Parky shifted and that Johnson is the wrong man? Certainly not for the first bit. Parkinson was way behind the times and the regression was already well underway under his tenure. Add to that his woeful lack of ability in the transfer market and his debilitating underdog mentality and I remain happy he’s gone. As for the second point, I think that much of what Johnson is doing is the right stuff for us in the medium term. The beauty of a proper football structure is that you can cut a man loose if things don’t work out. Think we’re far from that right now though.

Hard to say. We have pressed more but then sit back for huge chunks again. Overall, I'd say not really. Too early to tell though. See how his signings gel and then we will know.

Back to type today I thought. No presence, no hold up play. Lots of stupid fouls to give them an easy out. No anticipation in the box.
He started chasing things down when he knew he was coming off. He hardly got off the ground all game. People say we are fucked if he gets injured, well the same applies when he is as shit as he was today and a few other games. As for the original question, I think we have slightly improved but the football is still abysmal, slow, lethargic and a propensity to go back as a first option, that should be the last choice. We can’t improve on the two shite goalies we have and they have done and will continue to cost us points. There isn’t a match winning save in either of them, people may not think it’s a priority, I think it is.

yes and no

can see improvements in some players and it feels like the additions of Jones and Vokins will improve what we currently have (if they don't then we are in bother), but the same frail and weak mentality amongst a lot of the squad we've seen for recent seasons still remains.

we will continue to see performances like today as mental attitudes and culture are harder to change than individual performances

How can he not realise we have no energy in the team and leave Gooch and O'nien on the bench??

Fair question and one I can't answer, perhaps fitness issues ? I can't explain how McFadzean or O'Brien play either. Hopefully he will suss them out sooner rather than later.

Great post, this.

Burge is awful, really awful. He got lucky today so the finger isn’t pointed directly at him but you know it’s coming.
