Are The Moralists Still Not Watching?

To all those that didn’t watch a live England game, and a big thanks for not waving crusader flags in the faces of those that chose to watch, that was well ‘kin civilised I can tell thee. Further still, the aforementioned have kind of rewired themselves, for making a moral choice is a gamble, as we don’t often get instant feedback.

So now you all have higher colours, feels good yes? Here’s the winner…because you rewired, the next time you have to confront a moral issue, you’ll go back to that solid maths program that served you well previously. We need to starve to appreciate simple food, life is a series of trials, we can learn or fall.

Yeah I ramble, but it’s the beauty of physics and the human condition that dismantle my barriers…I don’t mind me :D
Pretentious drivel. Lay off the booze you nonsensical, metaphor mixing, buzzword obsessed donk.

Teetotal mate...you can tell the drunks because they get a little bit angry about someone thinking differently from them, plus they all name call. Irrational fear my friend, I'm but a harmless Elf :D

Stone cold sober, it's pretentious, patronising self loving drivel that affects my blood pressure. Go and polish your coin collection in your empty home, empty life, empty head.

You have some points about society in america, but generally people are free. It's not perfect
Imagine you want to change American society or you want to change Qatar society!
One you can do all you want, you can be who you are. You can challange and have a voice.
The other is a fascist regime.

If you think facism is better than democracy fuck off to the middle East
You can't do what you want without repression in the USA. Not if you want an abortion, not if you're an atheist and want to run for office in Texas, or want to be a Communist, or want to just go about your life if you're black.

If you're someone like me you're fine in the USA, but I'd you're black in California you're 3 times more likely to get a fine for crossing the road.

The USA is only free if your face fits.
You are a lunatic
And you're not?
People who lack tolerance of different opinions are statistically 40% more likely to be a psychopath.

What doe Qataris seeing America in this way, have to do with me not wanting to watch the world cup?

I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about you calling the poster a lunatic for saying qataris will see America in a certain way which I'm saying they probably will do.

You have some points, but you're still more free if you're the people you described in Qatar than america.
Try getting an abortion in Qatar.
Try being gay in Qatar.
Try criticising the Qatar way of life - imprisonment for anyone who does so.
If youre qatari in Qatar you're fine, but try being a non resident / foreign worker

Try talking badly about the prophet Mohammed in Qatar and see how far it will get you.
Btw the Texas atheist stuff isn't true Fact-check: Are atheists allowed to hold public office?

America has problems as does the UK (where you are more likely to be stopped by police if youre black).
I find it ridiculous when people come out with this 'whataboutery' , insinuating that we shouldn't have morals about Qatar as there are problems in other countries.

The fella in question called me stupid, an idiot, and said I must be a barrel of laughs to go out with, because I have a difference of opinion with him. So statistically 40% more likely to be a lunatic(like I said). Cheers for clearing that up.

Whataboutery at it's finest. By all means ignore the moral problems, no-one cares about that. But to compare the USA to Qatar is utterly stupid. One is one of the most free countries in the world albeit a few minor issues (the USA is the same size as the Middle East thereabouts) and one which has very little freedoms at all. You've literally nit picked the worst parts of it by an extreme minority and comparing it to a countries laws.

To just pick one of those in that list, gays in the USA - free to marry, free to express their sexuality, free to have sex. Gays in Qatar - no freedoms, illegal, conversation therapy and potential death penalty.

It's very bizarre why some people are obsessed with defending a corrupt country.
Gays in USA just get shot in mass shootings.....and who lets the shooters carry guns....the Government

How's it a strange comment? It's a total different thing, maybe people enjoy club football as they actually go to the games and can watch it live while supporting their team. Most people can't do that with England bar crap friendlies and watching every game on a box with a bunch of plastic fans throwing beer around just isn't the same.

I personally can't stand watching England and haven't watched a minute of the World Cup and it's nothing to do with Qatar. Not to mention the team selection is still a farce picking players from certain teams only which benefits the Top 6 massively.
They get picked from the top 6 mainly because....they are the best players at the top clubs. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️ who else would you have picked from outside a top 6 club? Only Toney who could grumble.

Not watched any yet. Not wanted to, just doesn't feel right.

No problem with anyone else watching. There are people I love and respect who are watching, and my view of them has not changed at all. I recognise that me not watching and avoiding the sponsors has made zero impact and not been noticed in the stats. I'm fine with that.

The point I've been making is not that people shouldn't have morals regarding Qatar. It's that they shouldn't be selective about the countries they apply their moral to. Where is the line where things become acceptable?

I'll say it yet again, the laws and practices in Qatar are abhorrent but why solely focus on them? Its only because its topical atm and 90% of people will forget about the place soon. I just find it hypocritical that people target some nations and not others. The homosexuality laws in Qatar are based on Islam. Almost every country where homosexuality is illegal has a Muslim majority so maybe the focus should be on the religion not the country? I'm not an Islamophobe but that is the reality of the argument.

The health and safety question is relevant, but we have to remember Qatar has only become really wealthy in recent times because of gas. They were just an insignificant outcrop of desert before that. Those laws will evolve like they have in Europe. The immigrant workers vastly outnumber the native Qatari population and they will be terrified their power would be threatened. Its terrible how Qatar treats its migrant workers. You'd think India would put sanctions on Qatar but no, they want the gas and the bilateral trade between the two countries has jumped by 63% in a year.

Like I said I'm not defending Qatar, I'm pointing out hypocrisy.
The fella in question called me stupid, an idiot, and said I must be a barrel of laughs to go out with, because I have a difference of opinion with him. So statistically 40% more likely to be a lunatic(like I said). Cheers for clearing that up.
I made the statistic up but it's probably true ;). .I didn't read that and you're entitled to give what you get.

I cannot understand how upset people are getting over people making a little, personal, innocuous stand over the world cup. It's crazy

Id feel safer walking the streets of Qatar than in USA....have you checked the homicide , burgalry , rape statistics in comparison......maybe you just one of these who believes everything you read in main stream media and feel a better human by jumping on a moral bandwagon.

By the way I live partly in Virginia in USA...I have a green card....and many of the middle eastern population who currently work there plan to go back to middle east for the safety of their children

If you like the sound of a fascist, authoritarian regime, that's up to you. Some people don't though. Do you think homosexuality should be illegal in the u.s and u.k?

Im only quoting what Arabic people have told me....they feel safer in their own countries than in USA and feel concern for their children growing up in a society of drugs , race hatred and homicides....the majority of them are planning in returning to Middle east

Absolutely. Before the world cup there were a few people starting threads about boycotting it and the moral issues, but it looks like most not watching it are just quietly getting on doing other things. For me with most of the games seeming to be while I'm at work and I don't have a live TV source, avoidance is easy.

The ones starting the threads now are from people who seem to be very angry at other people not watching something they are. Probably a sign that they are insecure about watching it themselves, so hitting out and almost trying to draw posts from those who have chosen not to watch it, who would otherwise be quiet.
