Are The Moralists Still Not Watching?

Surely that's worse. Fact they can't confirm exact amount means it's likely higher. 1 is too many and that's just deaths, injury would swell the list further.
The one thing the boycoutters are really missing out on is the ITV theme tune. It's beautiful. Unlike the BBC, which sounds like it was put together in a year 6 school weekend project.
Well now you've said that I'll ignore all I hold dear and join in the sportswash

Why exactly does it bother people so much that others see things differently?
I'm watching the World cup but I have absolutely no problem with anyone who isn't.

Nowadays, it feels like there is this anger toward anyone who have a different opinion. People try to shame them into feeling like their OPINION is somehow wrong.

I mean, cutting someone up because they AREN'T watching TV? I wish I had that problem.

Life's way too short to spend it forcing others to be just like you.

I'm still not watching. It was never about the quality of football or how well England does. Honestly, f***ing get over it man. Some people aren't watching it out of personal choice. Watch it if you want, no one cares. Stop being such a precious snowflake.

I'm not saying I don't respect your right to not watch it on moral grounds, but I'm curious to know how you draw the line on things like this when the vast majority of countries have dubious laws, customs and rulers that are absolutely corrupt. Qatar are still in the middle ages but why are they singled out?
No problem and fair question. For me it was the worker deaths that have been reported at circa 6,500 people. To put that into context, zero people died on the construction of the London Olympics and, as much as we think China are bad, only about ten died in the construction of their olympics. With that in context, there is no way so many people should have died like that and it doesn't feel right to watch.

As much as I disagree with their broader position on lgbt and women's rights, as others have rightly pointed out, we dont exactly have a fantastic record in that space in recent history so I think its difficult for us to moralise on that anyway.

Spot on marra. It’s not bothered me not watching but for those watching and enjoying got not issue whatsoever. My boy is watching in the other room while the missus and me enjoy a nice meal and movie in the other room.

Haven't watched any of it, nothing to do with ethics and all of the controversy just haven't had any interest in international football since euro 96.

Like Russia changed. Or ate they at war with their neighbour causing all.manner of bother across Europe and the globe in general.

Maybe you answered your own question there with the last sentence. We all know who the key rogue states are, many in the middle east, north Korea and China along with Russia being the worst.
Russia is a different kettle of fish and that should be obvious to absolutely anyone.

Qatar is a small Arabic backwater that was colonised through history because of its geo-stategic location, but its people were generally left alone to do as they please. All of a sudden they got independence and a small amount of oil wealth and started a gradual integration with the outside world. Russian has been the largest country in the world, with a huge empire and massive geopolitical interests.

Qatari human rights abuses are down to misguided and outdated views on the world which are slowly changing, albeit not fast enough, while Russia's are to serve their own interests. Qatar aren't a rogue state, they just haven't evolved.

I've watched none. Not totally down to morals as I didnt really watch euros either and that wasnt in middle east.

Though nothing takes away that its corrupt as fuck.

Aye, honestly couldn't give a fuck about international football either way long before this, but it's always hilarious how bothered other people get by that and this competition especially because of the moral standpoints

Every other day someone on here starts a passive aggressive thread like this trying to laugh at people for not wanting owt to do with this competition

I said I'd only watch England and not bet. Have maintained it so far although was tempted to switch on to see Ronaldo twisting when I saw Morocco were beating Portugal but held out. Don't understand why op is so bothered about others who are choosing not to watch.
