Are pubs finished?

I know mate, no need to explain it to me, it's all there in plain sight, people just close their eye's and stick the fingers in their ears, the landscape is changing dramatically, but If anyone say's anything about it, they're a right wing loony apparently, or a tin foil hat wearer.
It’s amazing how people go on When you bring it up.
The population places like the Stack and the similar development at the Sheepfolds is the way pubs or groups of like minded businesses should head in the near future. Shared costs and a wider appeal covering a range of tastes.
That’s a good point. You can see places like that doing well

Stack have got a place to open in Bishop main street either this year or next 2 or 3 doors down from Tap&Tun. It makes no sense to me. The town is already dying a death. They've got a new shopping preceint up t Tindale which would have been much better location considering they've only got a WMC and a pub/food place.

I may end up being wrong on this one. For me, most pubs have a unique selling point. It might be the atmosphere, the music/ DJ. It might be the food, but even then it tends to be selective i.e. Italian, curry or whatever.

Places like the stack offer a range of foods in a communal seating arrangement so everyone can get a bit of what they want. It’s inclusive and it’s very Instagramable at the moment.
Bish Vegas centre should benefit overall from the Stack locating there.

See, I can't see Bishop as a town (even the high street) benefiting. The town centre (as a local) has suffered since Ruffer has gone on his Auckland Project drive). It's all well and good ploughing the money into the Auckland Castle, Weardale Railway, Kynren and the Spanish and Mining Arts Galleries but there's literally nothing else. Bishop is a ghost town now compared to 10 years ago never mind 20 years ago when it was a thriving shopping centre with it's own bi-weekley markets. Put a Stack in there, by all means. People will go there but then they'll leave. There's literally nothing else if you don't want to visit the Castle or the galleries. Tindale would have been the better location. I know it sounds a tad contradictory turning down a place like Stack in an already dying town centre but I just can't see it working.

I said they were during covid and I stand by it. In the 90s there used to be groups of mates female and male went on pub crawls in every town and city in the UK. Doesn’t happen these days and bars are closing all over the place. Pints cost a fortune and loads won’t pay it.
I was in a bar on Friday evening and it was packed. No young people in, all a bit older crowd. Loud music (good stuff too).

And it was pricey. £12 quid for a pint and a glass of wine.

My point being that pubs are not done. Not yet but I think some are doomed.

Yes the drinks are too expensive but if pubs try hard it can be done.

However, I’m not sure if this bar is open all day every day. I suspect not.

Durham and Newcastle are heaving on a Friday and Saturday night. It's the 'locals' that are suffering: who needs to go down the pub to talk to some boring sod about his pigeons when you could talk about something more interesting to you on social media? You could also have a smoke and the beer is cheaper.
