Are pubs finished?

They’re finished mate. Few years time when this place is finished you’ll be sat with a VR Headset on talking to the likes of Harry Angstrom having taken a pill that makes you feel like you’re drinking a pint while wearing a futuristic Lycra suit
🤣 🤣

Love it!

I'm glad none of your predictions ever come true - reaffirms my belief in normal humanity.

The biggest problem at the minute is the lack of taxis. You used to be able to ring a taxi at any time of day or night and it would be there in under 10 minutes. Now you have to ring 8 numbers before you can get one within the hour. It stops people moving about so freely.
I know people who won’t venture into town cos it’s difficult to get a taxi there so they don’t think they’ll be able to get home (even though there are loads at the rank).
People are weak willed and would rather give up and drink at home than find another way to get to the pub.
Wouldn't call it weak willed like. People are on their time off work and just want to relax and enjoy themselves, they shouldn't have to piss about to go to the pub tbf.

Was on here talking about it a few weeks ago, we came up with three or four pubs left, in the whole west of Kayll Rd, Sunderland, area, that's from the riverside at Pallion, past Ford estate, Pennywell, Grindon, Thorney, Farra and on down to Grangetown, there maybe one or two we missed, but even so, that area covers a lot of people, the few that are still left are just about hanging on. will they still be there two years down the line? I think not.
The social club scene that had most of the estate going to the Club has disappeared. That was thousands of people going every week. Never my scene but it was a social phenomenon that is dead.

Dead and gone. All them clubs and community hubs are totally finished. Once thriving towns and villages. Few years time we will be ruled by machines, living in sewers, eating rat meat and be called things like snake and bollulous While war rages above on the singed planet.
Those places will be chocka bloc in a 15 minute city, especially if the Lycra suits are compulsory
That’s all we will have. You think it’s bad now wait a few years

As long as I can get a pint of ale for under a tenner, I'll leave the sewer for a couple of hours every now and then.

Pubs will survive but only if they adapt. A lot of places serve food now.

In Shildon, my local has started doing Kareoke and £2.50 pints on Monday afternoons because a fair few were drifting off to Darlo for exactly that. They so sandwiches and pies on a Tuesday afternoon, poker on the night. Wednesday afternoon and Friday dinner time they do bingo and games afternoons. Thursday have the the start of weekend drinkers, free pool during the day then a knockout pool competion on the night. It's a struggle but you always seem to have double figures in.

Barely any point. Life as we know it will change forever. Buildings will be razed to the ground and we will be left with rubble. Underground areas will be split into sectors and pubs will be nothing more than a distant memory

The do that in the Hancock along from me If you’re a student. Tbh it’s still dead
Better get out tonight then.
Are you gan to young fathers next week? Can’t wait me like

More will close but a new equilibrium of supply and demand will be found. There will still be pubs in towns and cities. Village pubs may be lost if they don't do food. People's habits have changed for various reasons such as (in no particular order) Covid, smoking ban, cheap drink in supermarkets, rising prices of beer, more TV channels, better enforced drink driving laws, the ability to F2F chat on WhatsApp and FaceTime type apps.

I know mate, no need to explain it to me, it's all there in plain sight, people just close their eye's and stick the fingers in their ears, the landscape is changing dramatically, but If anyone say's anything about it, they're a right wing loony apparently, or a tin foil hat wearer.

The rise in popularity for places like the Stack and the similar development at the Sheepfolds is the way pubs or groups of like minded businesses should head in the near future. Shared costs and a wider appeal covering a range of tastes.
