Arca on Johnson

Wholeheartedly agree. Apart from the necking on bit.

You're right. I don't really want to pucker up either! But it's nice to be nice....although you'd never think so looking at this thread. Glad you agree Connolly-31.
It's time to create new legends, not debate the dubious claims of very decent players who we should simply remember with a smile.

That's just not true though Perry. I said "He had a very good season in the championship" and that he was a top Championship/Lower level Premiership player.

Contributed virtually nothing?

The abuse started with your assumption of 'muppets' wanting Andy Welsh in ahead of Arca. Or you judging my ability to 'spot a footballer'.

So you wanted Welsh in ahead of Arca? You never admitted to that did you?

What I actually said was:

it was a stat regurgitated everytime some of our idiot fans tried to tell us Andy welsh should be near the side or that arca was overrated.

Seeing as at the time he was scoring goals, our playmaker and clearly our best player, then those calling for him to be dropped, replaced or that he wasn't having an influence were clearly idiots. There's a difference between listing his flaws, which he had a few of and talking bollocks like that.

The ability to spot a 'footballer' wasn't abuse, it was a comment based on your comments and your refusal to back it up with anything genuine other than "contributed virtually nothing" or "He was really good at running round in circles and megging people without contributing much". Your inability to actually describe the footballer, with any sense of balance in a debate about him, despite being repeatedly asked to do so spoke volumes.

As for the actual abuse. You can mention 'sly digs' again if you like, which you done from the off anyway. As for actual abuse directed to posters, well you clearly started it and your post here was where it started before your shocking post here, then had the cheek to (on several occasions) suggest it was me and told me to " Feel free to throw abuse my way as my opinion differs. The irony in that is supreme, because you've started and then continued to throw abuse my way, because you dont agree and are being questioned about your comments

Where did I under rate Arca? I've said exactly what he was. At best a lower level Premiership footballer, now giving that he's spent most of his career getting promoted and relegated I'd say I'm not far off the mark. I never under rated him. so no irony whatsoever.

You've said what he was in one or two places. But then in a few others you've continued making comments about 'contributing virtually nothing'.

For crying out loud Perryqhill, call a truce. As I posted earlier, this thread is depressingly counter-productive and achieves nothing. Arca was a decent player, nice left peg, a tad slow. Looked smashing in a very, very poor side. Let's remember him with affection for what he was - and because, perhaps best of all, he remembers us with affection.
Julio is not a legend. He's a cult hero. (And by the way, as I said to Connolly_31, Bally's no legend either.)
Let's not tear each other apart for no good reason and instead look forward to seeing the rather better players Martin O'Neill has assembled this time around.

You're a social worker aren't you?

You really are becoming boring. Arca contributed virtually nothing in becoming a 'legend'. How is that difficult to comprehend. I give up. You'll come back, disect every post and write an essay on how you're right and everyone else is wrong.

Arca was not/is not a Sunderland legend. He was a very average footballer who done well in the Championship. He was well liked by SAFC fans as he loved SAFC and therefore over rated by many. That's my opinion. Your next 3000 word dissertation will not alter my opinion.

Like it Albert, like it. No mate, no fear....though I feel like it. Maybe more like a downtrodden sheriff with everyone's best interests at heart...walking into the saloon, doors swingin' behind me to confront two boys from the Badlands at the bar with nothing better to do than the rip the place apart.
Ah well, time to hand in my badge....

As does virtually everything we post on here, so why are we here? To debate/talk etc about SAFC.

Arca was a decent player who was our best player in a championship side and in a couple of seasons looked a decent top flight player and in a couple of others didn't look up to it. None of that is the point anymore (was it ever?).

I agree

However when looking at the definition of the word 'legend' I would think Ball fits it perfectly, even if he was a very average footballer.

The internet and messageboards are what they are mate. As much as I look forward to this new season under MoN, you aren't going to change some disagreements on here or how this place works.

I'm becoming boring? Because I'm not just letting what you say go and agreeing with you?

You said he 'contributed virtually nothing' not that he 'contributed virtually nothing to be classed as a legend' True or not? I'll give you a clue, it's true.

I never once called him a legend or said he should be classed as one. FACT.

You also started with the abuse.

You then repeat whatever shite you've just said, ignoring what I'm saying and skating over whatevers been mentioned and you call me boring?

Bingo.

Let's not count our chickens before they hatch... Johnson looks promosing hopefully he'll become as much of a legend as Arca if not more.

Na... in this scenario, the sheriff gets drunk and falls asleep at the bar, while the bad boys slug it out till dawn

At a higher level it was for Boro and stopped him playing there regularly.

Not something in evidence to any real effect there for us.
